To let you know that once again users have been exposed to CSA images on MN?

I can’t see a post from MN warning users, and many people may not use Site Stuff and so will miss the thread in there.

Once again overnight MN was the subject of an attack whereby CSA images were posted (or links posted with image previews visible) on multiple threads.

For the second time in as many weeks, users were exposed to these images when using the site.

I am sure MN are doing their best to deal with this, but I won’t be using the site at night anymore and feel like users should be aware so that they can make their own decisions.

That is horrendous

JMSA · 15/02/2025 11:58

Thanks for the warning but unless I'm going mad, I'm sure there was already another post about this.

I'm so glad I didn't see any images Sad

Ahh was there? Apologies, I did a quick scan but couldn’t see one.

As long as people are aware that’s all that matters.

Again? I saw another thread but thought that it was about the previous incident.

LogicalImpossibility · 15/02/2025 12:02

I know you mean well, but YABU as there is another thread, and it was almost impossible to miss it last time as there were so many threads (I think I saw 6 or 7).

I think better to report and not give the spammers the satisfaction of seeing thread after thread of how much upset they’ve caused. I worry that seeing the reaction encourages them.

Waggytail · 15/02/2025 12:03

They need to disable the upload photo function.

Sarah2891 · 15/02/2025 12:04

Again?! I hadn't seen about it. Thanks for posting. Time for me to stop coming on here unless the photo uploading is permanently removed.

KilkennyCats · 15/02/2025 12:04

So much for the “Don’t worry guys, we’ve got it all in hand”.
What a shit show.

I do see your point (and happy to report this thread to be removed if there is another one, sorry!), but many people weren’t aware last time as threads other than the ones in site stuff were closed and deleted.

Posters have asked for MN to pin a post publicly so that all users are aware but so far this hasn’t been done.

They've disabled image previews so that line of attack should be blocked at the moment until they can implement filtering on those.

Obviously each person needs to think before clicking any link on any platform, and I'd be extra cautious about 'prettified' ones where the url isn't immediately visible.

Giggorata · 15/02/2025 12:08

Wtf?
I thought they had installed some kind of AI watchdog, or guard programme or something to prevent this?
I'm glad I wasn't on last night, seeing images like last time is more than enough for one lifetime.

Mumsnet admin, again, please confirm that this matter has been reported to the Police.

Absolutely.

I think the issue last night was that you didn’t need to click on the link to see them, there was an image preview when the link posted.

It seems that although MN disabled image posting previously and have worked on that, they didn’t think about image previews when links are posted.

I saw one of the horrible images last night, I didn’t click on anything but it was a preview of a photo that appeared below the link.

There should be a pinned notice from MNHQ about this but there won’t because they don’t want to draw attention to it.

It's the internet - shit happens

I think MN reacted well the last time, I tried to upload an image in the week - there was a pause, but the image had been reviewed & cleared by the time I'd edited the post and added a link rather than the image.

I appreciate some may bay a subscription to MN, but presume that most don't - there seems to be a lot more focus on stopping this stuff than many SM sites, but if you don't think it's sufficient, don't use MN, otherwise report the offensive post and move on.

Posts that I report are acted on speedily.

Banning images altogether would at least stop the parking threads.

ErrolTheDragon · 15/02/2025 12:19

Yes, I understand what the problem was last night. So sorry for those exposed to this vile stuff.
I was just making a rather obvious different point... if a website isn't already on some sort of blocklist I'm not sure if SM platforms can do much to protect incautious users but pretty links don't seem to me to be helpful.

Seeline · 15/02/2025 12:21

Thanks for this. I wasn't aware of another incident.
MN assured us all had been sorted after the last time....

Urgh. I clicked on a link on a MN eons ago - maybe 2007? The images on that link were the first and hopefully only time Ill ever see child porn. I can still see the childs eyes in my head right now all these years later. Utterly grim. Im sad but not all surprised weirdos are still posting such awful stuff to MN. They obviously get an evil kick out of doing so.
