Asteroid 2032

MumofHennHals · 14/02/2025 22:50

I've seen the news about the asteroid hitting Earth in 2032 anyone else feel really weird about this?

Space creeps me out anyway, but the possibility of it being catastrophic to a entire city is something else to my brain 😂

One in 43 chance?

We'll be fine Smile

HellNoWay · 14/02/2025 23:48

Can u link an article?

HashtagBlessedHashtagGrateful · 15/02/2025 01:10

This has been on the news too. It feels we're living the plot of a Hollywood action movie at the moment, with everything else that's going on at the moment 😬

vodkaredbullgirl · 15/02/2025 01:18

Armageddon comes to mind.

Caerulea · 15/02/2025 01:38

They've got a fair idea of where it's likely to land (not here), if it does at all, & from my understanding it's perfectly realistic that we can nudge it off course if they feel it needs it. We should build that tech anyway to have on hand.

Were it to hit it would destroy a city (which, by then, would be evacuated) though I'm not sure they know if it's likely to explode when it hits the atmosphere or make to the ground.

It's only just been spotted and we'll get more information on it's next pass (2028? Can't recall) and the 'chances' will go up & down in the meantime.

Ignore the truly absurd AI images news articles have been using for it, it's not the size of a small bloody planet lol.

Lambington · 15/02/2025 02:03

I'd be more worried about Trump effectively dissolving NATO in the face of Russian aggression.

BMW6 · 15/02/2025 02:19

Space is beyond HUGE.

Sure, collisions do happen - there's a lot of stuff whizzing around all around infinite space.

We've had strikes before - one saw off the dinosaurs and created our Mammalian ascendancy. Shit happens.

Chances are it'll miss but even if it hits its not going to be an ELE (Extinction Level Event). Just a few million lives lost.

PeloMom · 15/02/2025 02:59

Wasn’t there something like that again about 2012? End of the world or something?🤣

TwinklyNight · 15/02/2025 03:08

Somebody told me Nostradamus predicted 2032 is when the end of earth will happen, they told me back in the "90"s. I never saw it on the news but feel very nervous you have seen it on the news.

It's not big enough to end the world. Just destroy a small city😅😅😅 terrifying

Chances are it won't hit. If it would and it couldn't be prevented, might as well just accept it and enjoy life as we know it while we have it.

OneLemonDog · 15/02/2025 04:17

Is there any option for expedited delivery?

Maybe worry about the things that are an actual threat, like wars and the collapse of ecosystems happening in daily fashion

HelpMeGetThrough · 15/02/2025 06:54

I wouldn't worry about it, Trump will save the planet.

He will nudge it out the way with his ego. 🤔

SoScarletItWas · 15/02/2025 06:55

Quite frankly, at this stage it’s all we deserve!

5foot5 · 25/02/2025 00:06

19th January 2038.

That's the one to keep an eye on.

User14March · 25/02/2025 00:10

What I hadn’t realised we can only spot some threats so odds are a civilisation ending one would take us totally unawares.

suburberphobe · 25/02/2025 00:11

I agree.

Tomorrow is promised to no-one....

MeandBobbyMcGoo · 25/02/2025 00:14

One fell swoop sounds like a good way to go - saying that as a person who just went through a long and harrowing palliative care path with a parent.

Squarestones · 25/02/2025 00:14

Went to a really interesting talk on how we can stop asteroids recently, there's a bit of Nasa called the Planetary Defence Corps or similar and they have demonstrated they can fire a robot at one to change its course. Imagine being able to say that's your job!

User14March · 25/02/2025 00:19

@Squarestones but we can’t see/detect so won’t know about approach of the majority?

Can you expand?

Wasnr the Tunguska event caused by a meteorite? Don’t fancy the idea of that happening to a city.

Still if they know it’s there we’ll have warning before it hits presumably?

(If it hits I mean)
