Sick of Vinted not helping buyers

I bought something on vinted and it is SNAD (significantly not as described) so i let the seller know that the item has arrived and that the pics they used in listing did not show the faults and that nowhere in their listing did it state any wear & tear / faults / i was replied to with a tsunami of abuse about how i should wear glasses and why i shouldn’t have expected what i paid for to be anything other than what i received 😳 i then told the seller they left me no other alternative but to raise a dispute but vinted have asked me to return to seller at my cost… so im now baffled as it seems that anyone can do this and just keep getting the item returned to them to resell with no consequences til maybe eventually someone cba to return.
AIBU- vinted is for secondhand goods suck it up
AINBU- vinted is allowing scammers to sell here

Vinted's "buyer protection" is notoriously shite

I had an item delivered which was clearly damaged in transit. They did fuck all to help me, I had to pay to send it back to get any money back. The seller was devastated too.

wooliegloves · 14/02/2025 15:48

I don't shop on Vinted unless I actually know the item if that makes sense. Bought a pair of shoes and they turned up in a completely different colour. Apparently the photos are not expected a to be a true representation 🤷🏻‍♀️

lemonchops100 · 14/02/2025 15:49

that’s exactly how i would react if i had a buyer who received an item they were not happy with but my seller obviously knows the ‘vinted system’ where they don’t lose out if they sell shite as all that will happen if someone moans is they get it returned for them to ‘try again’ shocking

I have stopped using Vinted.

I bought a Tiffany ring that was not the size stated, it was so obviously about 5 sizes too small. The seller stated it was my fault and would not accept a return, I had to get Vinted involved, it is all chatbot and really hard to navigate, they did find in my favour in the end and the seller reluctantly agreed to a return, I sent it Special Delivery (at my own cost) and had proof it was delivered but then the seller tried to say she was out when it was delivered and did not know where it was. 🙄

I resigned myself to losing £350 but when I checked again, I had been given the refund. Took about 3 stressful weeks of trying to sort out though, I would not use Vinted again after that.

Doggymummar · 15/02/2025 10:45

I've just sent my 100th parcel and so far nothings gone wrong, but I am mindful that my time is coming. I've got ten to send today. However I appear to have something that was sent to me lost in the post so I need to deal with that. And some CF who pleaded poverty to get a discount is listing an item I sold to her at 4 x the price. More than retail actually. I am thinking I will switch to Whatnot, I spent all day on their yesterday and it was such fun, waiting to see what the quality is like when the goods arrive first,n

Whyherewego · 15/02/2025 10:47

I think vinted best used for things that have a value that you can afford to write off. So if it's cheap and arrives and is snad then you give a terrible rating and leave at that. I find eBay better for both sides if it's worth more

lemonchops100 · 15/02/2025 21:33

@Doggymummar
I have not heard of whatnot… i may give that a look 👀 thanks

What Pisses me off is when people describe items as ‘very good’ condition and they look terrible! Obviously I don’t buy them but I’m really honest about any flaws with anything I sell. I always say ‘tiny bit bobbly’ or ‘hole in pocket but not visible.’

Youcanpayit · 15/02/2025 21:40

Same. I bought a coat. The photos disguised the 5 massive rips in the lining seams where someone had been squeezing themselves into it. I had to pay postage to get my £30 back, got abused by the seller, and lost my right to leave feedback. It's shit.

Fencehedge · 15/02/2025 21:42

Hopefully people will go back to eBay now there are no seller fees for normals.

Chocolatebunny61 · 15/02/2025 22:05

I refuse to go near Vinted I’m afraid as I’ve heard too many bad stories. EBay are much better and it’s free to sell on there now.

welshwanderwoman · 15/02/2025 22:16

I agree with those saying don’t buy anything from Vinted at a price you can’t afford to write off. Even if the seller accepts a return, there can still be problems with the returns process. I bought a bag that was SNAD (pictured so as the enormous rip at the back didn’t show) and although the seller agreed to a return, Vinted sent me an InPost label addressed to me, not the seller. When I queried it, they just said ‘sorry, we only issue returns labels once’ and after I explained multiple times that the label was addressed to me and therefore could not be used, they said they were no longer communicating with me on this matter and blocked my account.

RochelleGoyle · 15/02/2025 22:18

I've only used Vinted once. Bought a pair of boots I'd been watching after seller reduced the price. Went to pick them up from the Post Office and empty box. Seller completely denied it, she has numerous positive reviews. I did get my money back as I'd bought buyer protection, however they made me photograph the packaging (as though that would prove anything). She was really nasty about it and it completely put me off.

lemonchops100 · 15/02/2025 22:20

Yep i think ebay is going to make a comeback as Vinted customer service is non existent…

Does eBay have an integrated postage label system now like vinted? I sold on there years ago but found it a faff estimating postage, labelling parcels. going to post office etc. vinted does the postage cost calculation and prints a label. I’ve not had any issue buying or selling (the only time I said an item was not as described, the seller paid for a returns label for me the same day so I obviously lucked out!) I’ve never bought or sold anything more than £15 on there though.

Mittens67 · 15/02/2025 22:22

I bought an item which was broken in transit. Reported it, with photos. Eventually got a message requesting a photo. I sent the photo again.
Still waiting now several weeks later.
I won’t buy from vinted again.

Yes

Oneminuteatatime · 15/02/2025 22:23

Vinted are only out for themselves, keeping the ‘buyer protection’ fees and doing nothing at all. They are rubbish for both buyers and sellers if there’s a problem. Both can be shady, both can be genuine.
I only spend up to £10, and sell items for less than £15 at most. I’ve been fortunate to have nothing disappear and no items I’ve received have been damaged. I would not be selling anything valuable on there.
EBay are just as bad though, there will be con artists on every platform. I’m still waiting for eBay to sort a refund for an item that didn’t turn up, tracking has no updates, but I’ve got to wait until the 18th to hassle them again for something ordered in the middle of January. It’s the risk you take buying from individuals online.

The postage is the big problem for me with Ebay

You have to work out postage whereas Vinted just gives you a size. Then Vinted sorts all the postage lables. You never have to worry about actually buying the label

Postlink on Ebay is shite. Twice now I've had "charges" applied like a month after an item was delivered where they claimed the item weighted more than I'd said. They wanted me to provide proof it was the weight I'd said, weeks after I didn't even have the item! It took a lot of arguing and emailing to get them to refund

TheLette · 15/02/2025 22:27

Vinted is fine but only for low value items. I never buy/sell anything above £25. Not worth the risk. I've never had a bad experience (some minor issues but not been scammed) and overall the good outweighs the bad. But that's partly because I'm staying away from high value items. Agree that Vinted does very little to help you when things go wrong.

Parrish · 15/02/2025 22:27

I sold my first item and I was scammed. Buyer bought my pristine shoulder bag and claimed it was damaged. Sent me an identical bag back but it was her damaged one. And loads of abuse. Vinted refunded her despite my evidence so she got a brand new bag for free. I deleted my account. Never using the site again for buying or selling.

lemonchops100 · 15/02/2025 22:31

@Parrish wow … i don’t blame you, that’s awful, i hate the injustice of it all, the customer service is a bot so nothing is fair… you cannot even complain properly to an actual person

Comeoutside · 15/02/2025 22:37

I buy through Vinted no problem but we're talking kids clothes at £2/3 value each so I take my chances.
I did have a huge hassle as a seller though, my parcel was somehow mislabelled and my buyer received adults clothes when I sent children's clothes (the adult clothes were not from me so not my mix up!)
I had to pay the shipping to get the incorrect parcel back, then Vinted refunded my buyer and told me they couldn't help me.
So I lost the money from my actual parcel as it disappeared, lost the money from the shipping and the buyer was refunded. And it's not actually free to shop on there as the buyer protection is just the same as eBay's seller fees - but least eBay has a customer service department and is now free so eBay wins now!

Ginburee · 15/02/2025 22:38

I only used it once and had loads of fraud issues. Never again.

SurferRona · 15/02/2025 22:40

I’ve bought lots from there (>100) and only had a couple of times a scam attempt tried. Vinted sorted it both times, was abit of effort to get past the bits to speak to a real person, but it was sorted quickly once they engaged. I prefer to eBay still, can’t be arsed with auctions anymore!
