And what was your results like? Did it last long? I’m getting it done soon for the first time and I can’t wait lol

What are 11s?

Frown lines. The things that I have that tell people to fuck off without actually telling them to fuck off. Some people don’t like them but I find them useful

This

Yes, very depressing.

Do you feel the same way about colouring your hair or wearing makeup?

I don't do either, I'm 60, grey hair. No make up feel very happy. I do look my age, doesn't bother me a bit.

MonGrainDeSel · 12/02/2025 23:19

I'm 55 and haven't had any Botox, nor do I plan to. I am not actually particularly wrinkly and if I do get wrinkly I reckon I will just do my best to embrace it.

Ahh! Cheers. I don't seem to have them. A few lines around my eyes. But not tons. Did find hycosan night (retinol and Vaseline, got it for some psoriasis but liked the side effects!) made those look less. Also started taking a marine collagen chewy which seems to have made my skin a bit springier.

I have been told Botox could really help with migraines and tension headaches.

I'm 40, but a bit of a baby face - and on the chubbier side which seems to help with looking younger.

If you have no experience then why post. The OP is not asking if people agree with it. Honestly, it's just rude.

It's a chat board, it's not rude to chat. I think it's mad to use botox, but wouldn't say in real life. That's why people use Mumsnet, to chat? To express different opinions?

TheGoogleMum · 12/02/2025 23:24

Never used it. I'm 36 and don't have any lines.

Angrymum22 · 12/02/2025 23:28

Had it done at 56. I don’t have 11s but thought I’d see if it helped with brow lift. It did. But haven’t had it done again.
Interestingly, before my DSis was diagnosed with Parkinson’s I thought she’d had it done. Turned out her lack of facial expression was due to the disease.
I can get it done free by a colleague ( dentist) but it just made my face look expressionless. And I lost my “look” the one that instantly indicates my mood to DS & DH.

Pieceofpurplesky · 12/02/2025 23:38

I never have and at 55 if I were to start now there wouldn't be a needle big enough!

Honestly though I get why people have it. There is so much pressure on women to look a certain way these days with the pictures of perfection on social media. It's a woman's choice so don't knock it. My one gripe is that you can't tell if someone is 20 or 40!

SantasLargerHelper · 12/02/2025 23:51

I'm 55 and started last year. It's really smoothed out my creased forehead. So I'm really happy with it, have had it 3 times now.

Each to their own. I'm definitely not doing it to look like a sex doll 😅

JMSA · 12/02/2025 23:54

Pamspeople · 12/02/2025 20:04

I often think about how much freedom and power women could have if they invested all the money they spend on treatments, fashion. Not judging anyone for feeling pressure to look a certain way, and the normalisation of all this stuff is so powerful. But wow, the amount of independence, travel, freedom women could have instead

Why can't we have it all?

Honestly, I do wish the judgemental ones would bore off.

MoonWoman69 · 13/02/2025 00:04

Love how the folks that are having it done are getting all defensive against the ones who don't! We're all entitled to our own opinions, that's what a forum is all about! Have it done if you want, don't if you don't want!
My opinion is that I like to look at someone who's aged naturally and feels comfortable with themselves.
Having it done for medical reasons is a totally different thing obviously. Someone I knew had it injected into their bladder/urethra, due to continence issues and it worked for her.

shutterby · 13/02/2025 00:05

I'm getting since 37, I love it. Mine lasts 5-6 months now so only twice a year, I get all theee areas and have done since the start. Just got it done last week and looks amazing!

Branster · 13/02/2025 00:06

OP I suggest you ask for this thread to be moved to the Style and Beauty board.
AIBU is like a lions pit.

I haven't had Botox and don't think I will have in the future.
But it actually is very common and the majority of results are very, very good.
The earlier you star, the better. I would say mid 30s at the latest but, of course you can get fantastic first results late 40s as well. There is a limit to how late you can start because for well established, deeper wrinkles, Botox simply won't cut it.

10 seconds and £300 every 4 months or so for smooth skin with a reputable doctor is a no brainer.

cherish123 · 13/02/2025 00:13

Why would you want toxins injected into you at any age? There are bound to be some side effects in the future.

Rainingalldayonmyhead · 13/02/2025 00:18

Changeandchanges · 12/02/2025 19:39

Oh my goodness this a sad thread.

Is botox really the norm for so many women?
And so many young women at that?

I was thinking the same thing. How very sad.

Rainingalldayonmyhead · 13/02/2025 00:23

Newbie8918 · 12/02/2025 19:53

Judgement of other women's choices is 'sadder' in my opinion.

Botox doesn't suddenly halt the ageing process. I still have birthdays. It's a cosmetic treatment which wears off, in the same way as using a chemical on your hair does.

I really don’t understand this. Dying your hair isn’t the same as injecting poison into your body. It can be seen as routine as but it’s not the same thing. You can’t buy Botox from Boots and you have to be qualified to administer it. Anyone can pick up a bottle and dye their hair. I get the normalisation but what it does to you is completely different.

Yeah no thank you…..

Botulinum toxin is a neurotoxin produced by the bacteria Clostridium botulinum that can cause flaccid paralysis by blocking the release of acetylcholine. It's considered one of the most poisonous substances known. Medical uses: In small doses, doctors use botulinum toxin to treat conditions like chronic migraines, cervical dystonia, and overactive bladder. It's also used to treat blepharospasm (uncontrollable blinking) and squints.

Rainingalldayonmyhead · 13/02/2025 00:29

Icanttakethisanymore · 12/02/2025 20:41

I’m someone (like many here I guess) who thinks it’s wild that so many people would consider injecting poison into their faces to temporarily look a bit younger ( or at least less lined). However, I think we do all need to check ourselves. Hair due and make up is different but the motivation is the same and as far as I know Botox is very safe so it’s not a big leap. It’s not for me and I wish we didn’t live in a world where it seems like a good idea to anyone but clearly that’s not the case. One think I would say; ultimately we all need to get comfortable looking older if we have the privilege of getting older. Botox just puts it off.

Edited

Seems like there are…..but not for hair dye and makeup so not really the same thing…..

Hope you're all getting it from medical staff and not people going to do a 3 day course.

Don't forget, filler migrates

namechangeGOT · 13/02/2025 06:23

Mum2jenny · 12/02/2025 22:08

Just enjoy the fact that you are older, but you are still alive.
You could be dead and 6 foot under.
Just live your lives and forget about your appearances. They are not really relevant in your daily lives imo.

Do you really think women who do get Botox (or in fact any cosmetic procedure) isn't enjoying the fact that they're not dead?!

I'm thrilled I'm not dead but I'm still going to continue to have botox because I also enjoy that!

PurpleFlower1983 · 13/02/2025 06:24

38, I’m 41 now. Have it done every 4-5 months. It’s great.

Late 20s 😂 I love it!

That's so sad. Younger people really are scared of ageing, lol.

Always a doctor, in Ireland only doctor or dentist qualified to do Botox.

Poppins21 · 13/02/2025 07:58

I really don’t get injecting poison or having surgery. I love me some skincare and going for a spa day- these things are enjoyable not surgery and needles. I can’t wrap my head around it and the results are often not great.

Hibernatingtilspring · 13/02/2025 08:00

I don't judge anyone who has it, just genuinely surprised when the subject came up at work and I realised how many people do have it these days! It's so expensive as an ongoing commitment, if you're getting it done by a medical doctor (which most my peers seem to do?)
I have a fringe, much cheaper!
