Years ago, having Botox was a massively taboo subject, now nobody even raises an eyebrow!

Well no, I suppose they can't.

SecondMrsTanqueray · 12/02/2025 22:32

I think I was 37, so 15 years ago. I had lines between my eyebrows and across my forehead which I hated.

I only have it every 9 months or so. Last time was in May and I have an appointment in 2 weeks. My practioner (former GP) is really good. So far, 4 of my friends and 2 of my colleagues now go to her.

I no longer have it in my forehead as those lines just gave up after a while. I have it in my glabella lines and crow’s feet. Love it. It’s really stopped me from forming wrinkles. I know lots of people on here simply love wrinkles, but I don’t want them anytime soon.

Oh my goodness this a sad thread.

Is botox really the norm for so many women?
And so many young women at that?

I agree. I am 48 and Botox free and plan to stay that way.

Bushmillsbabe · 12/02/2025 22:39

😂

Sorry, that was supossed to quote the 'can't raise an eyebrow comment'

Sadtosaythis · 12/02/2025 22:40

backpnceagain · 12/02/2025 19:49

I find it sad too how women seem to be using more and more injections and fillers to change their appearance. Ageing is a privilege and I don't see the sense in pumping your face with anything like that. Just seems sad.

@backpnceagain Ageing is a privilege and as such we have the right to enjoy that ageing as we see fit as individuals Do you use skincare? Why? Do you dye your hair? Why? Do you take supplements? Why? Hormones? Why? Because you can and it’s the joy of life; choice. It’s not sad to do it but it is sad to be so judgemental.

I lost my Mum when I was 12 so I know ageing is a privilege but life is also to be enjoyed and to feel happy doing whatever I want in terms of my appearance. It’s so narrow minded to judge people’s whole ethos on ageing based on whether they use Botox or not.

OP I was 44 and I wished I’d done it sooner.

Changeandchanges · 12/02/2025 22:41

JustFeedMeCake · 12/02/2025 20:42

If you have no experience then why post. The OP is not asking if people agree with it. Honestly, it's just rude.

No experience of what?

Rude to post an opinion on a subject that is totally relevant to women and their role in society?

What right have you to tell other posters that they can and can't post on?

How patronising.

TwoCatsandaHeart · 12/02/2025 22:41

Tried it early 40s but I hated it- I felt self conscious and odd and couldn’t wait for it to wear off. Much rather hav a few wrinkles and a face that feels like mine.

I saw what you did there!

AllyDally · 12/02/2025 22:43

About 18 months ago, im now 45. Makes my forehead lovely and smooth small amount round crows feet. Love how nice make up goes on, I have no visible lines when it wears off unless I frown/raise my eyebrows so i am guessing its helped the deep lines to not appear.

Shame my neck/under chin looks old. Anyone have any suggestions to help with that?

AllyDally · 12/02/2025 22:45

If someone good does the botox you should still look like you, have a bit of movement, just have smoother skin. If it looks too drastic and you can't move your face you really have chosen the wrong person to do it!!

what a sad vein life you have

You spelled 'vain' wrong and thank you.

What a pious and judgemental life you have.

Maria1982 · 12/02/2025 22:50

Newbie8918 · 12/02/2025 19:43

Yes.

To me, it's as normal as dying your hair.

I don’t die my hair 🤷‍♀️

but to answer the OP- I have no desire to use Botox, seems like a waste of money

It’s a shame to see how many women judge and belittle other women for getting Botox. A lot of passive aggressive “It’s so sad” and “I’ll never do that” (ie I’m better than those who do…).

I haven’t had Botox, but after going through hell with bereavement and serious health conditions, I’d be interested to try it. I don’t want to look in the mirror and see the pain on my face. I’d like to look happier and fresher again. I’ll probably try it one day and see what I think.

I posted that I think it's sad that society pressures women into feeling they need artificial treatments like botox.
That is not judging women. It is judging the society.

I get very annoyed when women who do resort to botox and cosmetic surgery label those of us who are worried by the normalisation of such processes as " judgemental" . On MN voicing an opinion that doesn't agree with someone is labelled being " judgemental" when, in fact, it is merely just voicing a different opinion.

ElleintheWoods · 12/02/2025 22:52

Has anyone been turned down?

I've just been turned down by my clinic at 35 with 'you would not see any benefit from it'. Apparently I have very little facial movement compared to most people.

Anyone gone for any alternative treatments when Botox is not a good fit to achieve firm, plump facial skin?

MoonWoman69 · 12/02/2025 22:54

@Scrabbelator Agree!
It's perfectly obvious to me who's had Botox/fillers and who hasn't! Whoever says it isn't is deluded!

cariadlet · 12/02/2025 22:56

I'm 58. I've never had botox or lip filler and never will.

I've got a few wrinkles and a few grey hairs but so what? Nothing wrong with ageing. I've got more confidence and fewer fucks to give than when I was an insecure teen with lovely smooth skin.

Maybe I'm lucky to know so many women my age or older who feel the same way. I don't have any pressure to inject myself with chemicals to pretend to be something that I'm not.

And yes I do judge women with a clearly fake face (trout lips, weird eyebrows etc). My head tells me that women should be able to do what they want with their own bodies and their own faces but my heart/instincts tell me that they look like porn actresses or sex dolls.

I also hate the ageist, pornified society we live in which makes so many women feel that they need to mess about with their faces and bodies.

I know that I'll be judged in turn for being so judgy but really couldn't give a fuck.

0ohLarLar · 12/02/2025 22:56

Never..

I'm 39, i have the beginnings of some lines. I smile because I'm happy. My lines are a life lived, aging is growing. My mother has many lines. She is beautiful.

0ohLarLar · 12/02/2025 22:58

This. You cannot recreate that true look of youth in real life. I don't like how it loojs when people have had botox & fillers.

FindusMakesPancakes · 12/02/2025 23:01

I started at 50 after a particularly turbulent and stressful period of life, where my 11s got so deep it physically hurt me. Up until then, I was completely against the idea, had never thought about it, but my muscles were essentially in spasm. So, yes, I have an occasional bit of Botox to keep my muscles from tightening up.

Convolvulus · 12/02/2025 23:04

Truechicken55 · 12/02/2025 19:55

26 I’m 40 now and have 3 areas every 3 months. I have no visible lines on my forehead or around the eyes and hate when it starts to wear off

It's really sad that someone would hate a natural process like this.

I've never had Botox, never intend to, and have saved myself a fortune as a result. I'm very happy with how my skin looks.

@cariadlet Women have been doing things to their bodies for hundreds and hundreds of years.
All in the pursuit of feeling/looking good. The way I look at it is, what I’m doing is my choice and what you choose to do is yours. Aren’t we lucky to all be alive and well enough to do as we please? Don’t overthink it. I don’t have Botox to look like a p*star, I have it because I’ve had a stressful few years and it shows. A tiny bit of Botox has totally freshened me up and given me a little boost. It’s great!

Tangfastic71 · 12/02/2025 23:12

Im 53, never had Botox because my face (in my opinion 🤣) just looks better with age. I’ve grown into my features as I’ve aged and I honestly love my wrinkles. They show how much I’ve lived and all my emotions and expressions are there for people to see and feel and share with me.
If you want to do it, fill your boots. Each to their own. I wouldn’t want anyone telling me to do it, and I wouldn’t want anyone telling me not to do it if I wanted to do it!

Amerosardia · 12/02/2025 23:12

This subject seems to be quite contentious. There's some posters on here muttering about how false and bad and sad it is to have anything done to your face. I bet the same women want their houses and gardens to look nice, and probably spend a considerable amount of time, effort and money in doing so. Yet they are happy for everyone to be subjected to looking at a neglected face. Not many people age well.

Let's be honest here, we as humans are hardwired to enjoy smooth, fresh looking skin, and attractive faces, and if that's achieved or helped by using Botox or any other injectable then I thank the women who invest the time and trouble in displaying an outwardly more pleasing and appealing appearance.

EsmeSusanOgg · 12/02/2025 23:14

What are 11s?

XWKD · 12/02/2025 23:15

I don't think there's anything wrong with it. Some people like it, and it's like an extension of makeup or hair dye.

I've never had it (nearly 60), but I'd hate to think anyone would feel bad about getting it.
