And what was your results like? Did it last long? I’m getting it done soon for the first time and I can’t wait lol

I really don’t get injecting poison or having surgery. I love me some skincare and going for a spa day- these things are enjoyable not surgery and needles. I can’t wrap my head around it and the results are often not great.

Depends what you mean by results.

I'm 53 and been having it since mid 40s. It's subtle and the results for me is an extended career flying under the male judgement radar in a male dominated industry.

Aging is not a privilege if you get judged and lose out on career prospects.

As a lone parent my career is all important.

Lentilweaver · 13/02/2025 08:20

I wish Tretinoin was available more easily.
Less invasive/expensive/shortlived and really effective for me.

Love how the folks that are having it done are getting all defensive against the ones who don't! We're all entitled to our own opinions, that's what a forum is all about! Have it done if you want, don't if you don't want!
My opinion is that I like to look at someone who's aged naturally and feels comfortable with themselves.
Having it done for medical reasons is a totally different thing obviously. Someone I knew had it injected into their bladder/urethra, due to continence issues and it worked for her.

With respect please read the comments again. No one seems to be either defensive or judging those who don't. I'm certainly not. I came here to give the OP the facts that she asked for.

People are entitled to do what they want and I'm in the very much live and let live camp. If you choose to not have treatments, not dye your hair or wear makeup etc, that's nothing to do with me!

One the other hand, the comments from those who don't, are judgemental some even quite nasty and some have resorted to name calling. Sad, deluded, vain, stupid, irresponsible financially.

Women judging other women always makes me feel a bit sick!

The title is the op asking what ages people started getting Botox and how that has panned out. If you haven’t had it and don’t want it why are you even on the thread? It’s not a debating thread. Bore off.

squidgie · 13/02/2025 10:13

Madness. 48 here, never have and never will. Still care about my appearance. I treasure the freedom that comes from accepting the changes in your looks as you age. I have a lot of greys now but I'm OK with that. Still look good.

Should have put it in S&B then. Debating the premise of the question is totally valid in AIBU.

olivehater · 13/02/2025 10:24

Probably was a mistake of the op. Doesn’t change the fact the replies are pointless and haves scared the op off. But everyone gets to feel smug about their superiority for a bit so that’s ok.

Not pointless at all. The question was itself unreasonable as it assumed all women will do this. That's worth challenging. If the OP has reconsidered due to some of the replies then it's only a good thing that it's given her food for thought.

Waitingfordoggo · 13/02/2025 11:13

I'm 47 but look older thanks to years of smoking and partying in my youth and a double bereavement in my 30s. I had Botox once and it made a tiny difference to my lines which lasted hardly any time at all. The practitioner (who is a personal friend) said it is probably because I have a fast metabolism and exercise so much (15-20 hours a week). There's no way I'm giving up exercise so I'm thinking I'll give Botox a miss and just learn to accept myself as I am.

I'm judging society for valuing women with wrinkles less than younger women.
I'm in my late 50s and never will.

Absolutely agree. I'm nearly 78 and have never considered it. Filled out faces can all look the same, no personality. Aged, wrinkled faces can still be beautiful and have character.

Newbie8918 · 13/02/2025 11:41

@DappledThings would you have been as offended by the question if it was

'What age did you go on your first trip abroad?'

Absolutely not. You wouldn't be here, offended by the fact that poster was making an assumption that EVERYONE goes abroad.

It's clear she was only taking to those who had Botox. She also posted follow up questions about how long and cost etc, so let's stop pretending that the op is talking to everyone and allow them to get the answers to the question.

TwistedWonder · 13/02/2025 11:43

I’m 59 and never even thought about having Botox or anything else done to my face.

Each up their own but I really don’t get it

Offended? No. And I'm not offended by this question either. I think it's a daft question and a very silly expectation behind it.

I wouldn't think it in the least unreasonable if someone asked that question, on this board, and got a lot of responses saying that they hadn't ever been abroad. They would also be as valid an answer as those who answered with an age.

She asked "when did you start botox", those of us who haven't are well within our rights to come on and say never.

I think it is really sad that women as young as mid 20s and early 30s are having botox, when at that age they shouldn't be worrying about wrinkles or have any wrinkles.

Then there are those who are saying botox makes them look younger, when in reality it doesn't. Genetics make you look younger. No amount of botox will make someone look younger. I look younger because my parents have passed down that gene (all my family looks younger), I have never smoked and have never crash dieted which has also helped.

Snap. I work in a very youth dominated/expected industry, so work hard to keep my knowledge and skills as up to date as possible. For me, part of that is doing what I can to look my best with my wardrobe, hair, weight and skin.

I also understand that looks are judged (no matter what people say) in the workplace.

wherearemypastnames · 13/02/2025 12:55

I worked in a male dominated industry and never felt the need to wear make up never mind Botox and I got respect because of what I did - it couldn't have been greater had I hid the signs of maturity

It probably helped them see me as an equal first not a woman first

I’m not trying to look younger, I’m 45. I look 45 and have looked after myself.

im getting Botox to smooth out my grief and anxiety lines, I look so much fresher and awake when my Botox has been done

WinterHailWind · 13/02/2025 13:10

Mid 50s

Botox never

I do not dye my hair

I apend my time & money on other things

Males do not have such pressures from society

I am happy & I have lots of friends (male & female)

Konstantine8364 · 13/02/2025 13:15

I'm 36 and had it done once last year, but for me as a very active person who also needs to wear a helmet most days, the faff/cost did not outweigh the benefits. I thought it changed my face so my eyebrows looked weird 🤣 but nobody else even noticed positively or negatively so I'll save my money. I really hate the line between my eyebrows but you can't just remove that without forehead creases too so just going to live with it!

Newbie8918 · 13/02/2025 13:19

@XxSideshowAuntSallyx I've never had Botox to make me look younger. I started dying my hair at 19 and that wasn't to make me look younger either.

procrastinatorgator · 13/02/2025 13:39

35 and I LOVE it! People tell me I look 5-10 years younger and I feel more confident and I just am so happy with it. Before I was a bit negative about it like many people on this thread, feeling it was a bit vain, but since trying it I realised how much it increases self confidence and I just feel great. Sad for how judgemental I used to be - what's wrong with people wanting to feel confident and like the best version of themselves?

There is definitely nothing wrong in you doing it but users need to be realistic that they may think they look younger etc but others can easily tell the reason why.

wherearemypastnames · 13/02/2025 14:15

It's sad that you think yourself not good enough, not perfect as you are.

It's sad that you think looking young is a confidence boost rather than gaining confidence from your age and experience

Oh and most people will be polite and say all the right things to your face - but again why are you gaining validation from other people ? Why isn't it part of you? That's also so sad

funinthesun19 · 13/02/2025 14:17

I’m 35 and want to have my forehead done but just too nervous! I’m worried about it going wrong.
