And what was your results like? Did it last long? I’m getting it done soon for the first time and I can’t wait lol

I was 37 - in NZ you pay by the vial which is great as you can just get little bits done so it seems quite soft and natural, whereas here it's the same price no matter how much - you just pay by the area. You can still get a little but I always think it's a bit of a crock as you feel like you should get more so it lasts and get your moneys worth. I get forehead and my 11s. I also got a wee bit around my eyes to soften it and it worked well.

But I get only the top of my forehead done as I still want to have movement. I wish I started sooner - I was so worried about it but shouldn't have.

emmetgirl · 12/02/2025 20:36

I'm 58.
Never have.
Never will.

HangingOver · 12/02/2025 20:37
  1. Still no lines at 37 even though I only get a bit.
Pamspeople · 12/02/2025 20:37

I have no idea what 11s are, btw. It's another world.

TriathlonTriathlonTriathlon · 12/02/2025 20:38

38, I had really pronounced 11s, so it’s really helped.

37 and I'm 45 now. Botox worked for a while. However, after having 5 teeth removed over the years, my face had really given in to gravity and looked droopy.
So I've recently had 1ml of cheek filler and my marionette lines filled and its really given me a boost.

I didn't do it for anybody but myself and I'm the one who has to look at myself everyday in the mirror.
I never thought of myself as the type to ever want to have either of those procedures. I used to look young for my age but then age caught up with me. 😔

Me either. And I'm none the wiser as to why I'm meant to care if I have them.

mumzof4x · 12/02/2025 20:38

About 44
Tbh I wasn't too wrinkly but felt like my divorce at the time aged me big time and I always looked tired
Im 54 now and still go to the same qualified doctor only and three times a year for 11's and crows feet
Tbf I've not got any wrinkles on my forehead anyway.
Benefits : I can have 4 hours sleep and look like I've had 8.
Much easier to apply eye makeup as sort of smoother and less creppy
Eyebrows seem to arch or lift somehow
I like the person that does it because he has never once asked me if i want anything else and always offers a two week follow up
Also he questioned me more than I did him at initial consultation and he wanted to be 100% sure of my reasons and risk etc

Whoknew24 · 12/02/2025 20:38

33 I’m 39 now. I get it only twice a year as I don’t mind movement just want to keep the refreshed look. I only get sides of my eyes and in between eyebrows. My forehead still has no wrinkles I’ve been lucky so far. But I’ve used the same advanced nurse practitioner all this time, I checked her qualifications and insurance and the clinic is spotless and I know what she’s using. Do not go near these girls who went on a course etc !

MsGoodenough · 12/02/2025 20:39

A young colleague of mine told me she wasn't drinking on a night out last night because she had her Botox appt the next day. I was shocked. She is 30 at most. I just can't comprehend young people getting Botox. Now this thread seems to assume everyone is doing it. I'm clearly a dinosaur, but it had never occurred to me that anyone apart from celebrities got Botox.

Kaftanesque · 12/02/2025 20:40

Mid 60s and never have and never will. And stopped colouring my hair and discovered my natural grey colour really suits me.I get lots of compliments. My wrinkles are part of me.And I know when I've put a bit of makeup on I still look pretty good for my age.But then Iv'e never spent lots on makeup. I go for an occasional facial. My beautician has botox and fillers and tbh I can always tell when she's just had it done. Each to their own. But I prefer low maintenance and natural ageing.

Youcanttakeanelephantonthebus · 12/02/2025 20:40

It's tempting to maybe wait until 86 and then go all in just to scare the relatives.

Icanttakethisanymore · 12/02/2025 20:41

I’m someone (like many here I guess) who thinks it’s wild that so many people would consider injecting poison into their faces to temporarily look a bit younger ( or at least less lined). However, I think we do all need to check ourselves. Hair due and make up is different but the motivation is the same and as far as I know Botox is very safe so it’s not a big leap. It’s not for me and I wish we didn’t live in a world where it seems like a good idea to anyone but clearly that’s not the case. One think I would say; ultimately we all need to get comfortable looking older if we have the privilege of getting older. Botox just puts it off.

HangingOver · 12/02/2025 20:41

Exitstrategist · 12/02/2025 20:27

Why don’t we all “live and let live”? I have Botox not for anyone else but because I actually have shit genes and look older than I am. So if I can feel more confident and actually like my age then brilliant.

Lol same. I have an inherited disease that causes my body to only make 50% of the collagen of a normal person so I'm ageing like milk. I'm getting a facelift in my forties and anyone who has a problem with it can stick it up their hole 🤣

Oh my goodness this a sad thread.

Is botox really the norm for so many women?
And so many young women at that?

If you have no experience then why post. The OP is not asking if people agree with it. Honestly, it's just rude.

EveryDayisFriday · 12/02/2025 20:43

42, baby botox every 9m.

PinkArt · 12/02/2025 20:43

Pamspeople · 12/02/2025 20:04

I often think about how much freedom and power women could have if they invested all the money they spend on treatments, fashion. Not judging anyone for feeling pressure to look a certain way, and the normalisation of all this stuff is so powerful. But wow, the amount of independence, travel, freedom women could have instead

Why assume women can't have all of the above? I'm not spending on Botox at the moment but I am on mounjaro, and have encountered similar judgement on the weight loss injections board, about how we could possibly afford such fripperies. Somehow it hasn't affected me owning my own home or having a successful career - plenty of power and freedom here.
Some people have lots of money. Some people have less money but prioritise spending on their appearance because they want to. All valid choices. Unless someone never cuts or colours their hair and wears anything beyond a sack then we are all 'victims' of spending on our appearance over the years.

No it’s not, it’s opinion. No one posts on AIBU without expecting a sackful of opinion.

Never and 40’s. A boss at my work was late 40’s and she dressed well and looked quite glamorous until one day she came in and looked different (not in a good way) and someone said yeah she’s had Botox and that put me right off. She looked like a cross between a mannequin and a puff fish. She was chuffed with it though 🫣

Edited

Doesn't sound like Botox, more like filler...

Newbie8918 · 12/02/2025 20:45

@TY78910 was going to say the same. Botox doesn't make you look 'puffy'. Filler can do, if done incorrectly!

PitchOver · 12/02/2025 20:45

I was 40.

Been having it a couple of years now and love it! Mine lasts about 4 months

I find it sad too how women seem to be using more and more injections and fillers to change their appearance. Ageing is a privilege and I don't see the sense in pumping your face with anything like that. Just seems sad.

I don't see the sense in deep forehead lines or looking like I'm permanently pissed off but each to their own.

JustFeedMeCake · 12/02/2025 20:48

Twice a year since I was 40. I'm now 53. It's the best decision I could have made and I consider it money very well
spent. Do your research very carefully I only use an actual Doctor.

37-at that age when lines when my lines were first starting to show, it was good. I kept it up until I had it done by a 'therapist' who put too much in, and my medium size forehead, started to look twice the size. By my 40's, lips had become a 'thing' and I was in there at the beginning (of the consultant surgeons wife who unbeknown to be had just started 'dabbling'). It resulted in my thin lips being pumped up to the point of ridiculousness, and dropping the bottom line of the top lip on the right and left of my mouth, (note: nobody seems to escape this problem; its the first thing I look at. Teeth that used to be exposed to a little of life/vitamin D/flashing an odd pearly white, hiding behind the new voluminous pressure of the filler.
Roll on to your late 40's/early 50's, and nothing looks authencially youthful as by now you are a walking advertisitmet for cosmetic procedures, with your plastic large forehead and your missing incisors, possibly enhanced with a look of puffy weight gain, from badly injected fillers.
Personally, I can enthuse about this topic,
a) because I'm old and have tried a few of them/watched how the generations play with them. Nobody bothered with their neck or hands - looks most odd to be smooth in parts at 50, but with a neck like a turkey
b) I was lucky enough to have some bad jobs in my experimental years and have learned from it (looking at you, botox consultant who injected too much botox which yes, smoothed out my forehead wrinkles, but also pinched my once pleasant looking eyes, into piss holes in the snow - another 'look' that's common
c) I get why people want to try it, I really do, we all want to look our best
In summary, you can maybe stave off aging in your 30's & 40's, until menopause. Then the shit hits the fan, unless you have a facelift, neck lift and hand lift, you are kidding nobody, and potentially looking really odd. Also, there is something extremely liberating in not giving a shit about wrinkles and ageing any more. I wish I could bottle it.

This is so interesting (thanks for sharing!) and it is what I have observed too. I haven’t had any Botox but I think it can look really good and natural up to your early 40s… from then on, it can start to look odd imo (because you either have a strange contrast between the wrinklier bits and the smooth bits, or you go all out and look a bit like an egg/pillow).

I am not against botox, or fillers or anything per se (or not particularly more opposed to them than any others products or treatments that exploit our insecurities to get our cash, and where does one start). But I do resent the lack of diversity on what is considered to “look good”.

BobbyBiscuits · 12/02/2025 20:49

My mum told me she thinks I need it. Not that she's paying?! I think the rule is if you claim to someone they require cosmetic enhancements then you should have to pay for it?!
But...I'm in my mid 40s so apparently it's too late for that and I just would be better off having my face cut off?
What I do genuinely need is a nose job and I can't afford that either. I would get that if I had the money. Nothing else though.
