And what was your results like? Did it last long? I’m getting it done soon for the first time and I can’t wait lol

As evidence for those who can’t be bothered to look (specifically @Newbie8918 and @Thirteenblackcat - who I now realise wasn’t the person I replied to originally, so not sure what the connection was)

What age did you start Botox?
Jane958 · 13/02/2025 20:21

Had my first botox a month before my 50th birthday.
I am now 66 and have it about twice a year.
If you have a good practitioner (I only go to qualified doctors) you really only need a treatment twice a year.

Newbie8918 · 13/02/2025 20:24

@cardibach I was replying to your comment above. Doesn't really matter who originally said it!

My 1st point was that when someone says 'I feel fresher' the clue is in 'I' and doesn't imply that others are not fresh!

@cardibach 'Look' fresher is the same sentiment.

I look fresher when I've just washed my hair. That's not implying that your hair is dirty!

JustFeedMeCake · 13/02/2025 20:29

Oh come on @cardibach you're really reaching there. Anyone could tell she meant fresher than she normally does. Not fresher than other people.

I find it very odd that there is so much spite towards women who have it yet we don't slate people for not wanting it. I couldn't care less if you don't have it. Oh and no, you can't always tell 🤣

The original post was to ask those who had it for their experience so why people that haven't had it or are so dead against it felt the need to even reply is beyond me.

It's a bit like a poster saying they're going to wherever holiday destination and people who have never been chipping in their (worthless) opinions about somewhere they've even never been.

As for a waste of money , to those anti, pretty sure you spend your cash on something that others would say is a waste of money.

Don't tear other women down because they do something so alien to you.

RunVelma · 13/02/2025 20:31

I’m 44 and I’ve never had Botox or fillers. I might have given into temptation if I didn’t have two teenage daughters, but seeing them constantly being bombarded with images of perfection has put me off.

My eldest daughter in particular has cripplingly low self esteem. I want them to grow up hearing me say ‘I’m beautiful the way I am!’ and if that means me having to put up with a few wrinkles, then so be it!

I don’t judge others for doing it though. Their body their choice.

Yes i know you were responding to someone else, which i why I used the word ‘also’

But as this is a discussion board, I am entitled to put in my take on it, and as I had said earlier in the thread, it made me feel fresh, I decided to explain what I meant in this statement.

You’d have spotted my post if you’d have been bothered to look

Why do a lot of celebrities look like they have obviously had work done even though they have the money for the best treatments. Nicole Kidman being a good example.

I think anyone can overdo it. Even with the best surgeon and practitioner!

Nicole Kidman has definitely had much much more than 2 areas of Botox!

Its the fillers, i think they have small amounts at first then just get more and more. It completely changes people's faces and I think if they have too much it looks bad regardless of how good the person doing it is.

I had tear trough fillers a couple of times, it did wonders for dark circles but it did make my cheeks look puffy. I'm not sure if it was how it was done or just that I personally didn't like it. I just have botox now but I am considering trying again as I hate my dark circles.

no, I know what I meant. I have before and after photos and I look fresher. Don’t presume to tell me what I’m thinking please

I agree you look fresher after botox, I dont compare if I look fresher than someone else but I definitely look fresher than I normally look. Friends commented that my skin is looking fresher, I was honest with them and told them I had botox, they didn't think it was that but just thought my skin looked better and fresher. Obv when I show them me frowning/raising eyes they can see it but if done well it really isn't and shouldn't be noticeable.

I've never really understood what's so bad about looking your age. Why is old bad? Genuine question

Looking old is bad because the private sector is incredibly ageist. Some of need to be employable.
If you're in the civil service or NHS, wrinkles are fine.

Frostywinterwoods · 13/02/2025 21:23

Newbie8918 · 12/02/2025 19:43

Yes.

To me, it's as normal as dying your hair.

Mental

No it’s not the same. If you say you ‘look fresher’ because you’ve washed your hair today it implies that anyone who hasn’t isn’t as fresh. Saying you feel fresher is simply reflecting how you feel about yourself.

The pint was, Nobidy had said they felt fresher. That’s not what the discussion was about at that point.

Anyone?
Because to me, ‘look fresher’ implies she looked less ‘fresh’ (ie less good) before. Which definitely implies others who look like she did, un Botoxed, don’t look ‘fresh’.
Fine, do what you want with poison in your own face but don’t suggest people who don’t inject poison look crap as a result.
Don’t suggest I’m being judgemental either - I am only being so in response to judgement of unpoisoned women.

I'm Spartacas!

I wrote 'It certainly keeps me looking fresher' meaning .......... 'than before I had it'.

Not your bizarre take, that I was saying I look fresher than those without it. Who am I to know who has it or who does not.

The only time botox use is identified is when an unskilled aesthetician is used. When you have a good one, it leaves no trace. (Apart from looking fresher). 👌

Newbie8918 · 13/02/2025 21:55

@cardibach no one is judging 'un poisoned' women. You're reaching.

cardibach · 13/02/2025 21:56

No, that’s how it reads. And it’s part of the whole background. Why would women spend a fortune on a medical procedure if they weren’t being made to feel inadequate without it?

I think you made the mistake of joking that you looked better than a woman of a similar age than you who hadn't had botox but still looked good for their age.

They might have different genes to you etc. I've never been really overweight but I did say I wondered if I did lose the bit of weight I would like to if it would make a difference in how old I look.

At the moment at 52 I don't think I need botox.

marmaladeandpeanutbutter · 13/02/2025 22:04

I would never use it.

You’re projecting ‘something’ I dunno what on to the people who are happier and feel fresher than before.

Im not trying to be better than anyone else, and am not comparing myself to anyone else?

No one is saying people without Botox look awful.

live and let live, you’re sounding really boring now

ExercicenformedeZ · 13/02/2025 22:10

cardibach · 13/02/2025 20:15

It said look fresher. Not feel.

To be fair, it's up to people what they feel. They may well feel fresher, as long as they aren't slagging off other people, that is ok. People who get Botox may think that those without look a bit rumpled, and that we're kidding ourselves that we look fine as we are. If I'm honest, I think that people who do get Botox and insist that they just look younger and 'fresher' and yet nobody can tell are fooling themselves. Everyone can tell, and no they don't look younger. They look their age, with Botox. However, we should all just live and let live.
