And what was your results like? Did it last long? I’m getting it done soon for the first time and I can’t wait lol

There is definitely nothing wrong in you doing it but users need to be realistic that they may think they look younger etc but others can easily tell the reason why.

I tell everyone who knows me about botox 😁 but I honestly don't think it's at all obvious on anyone I know (myself included) unless they've really overdone it. Most people who have had botox openly discuss it anyway - nothing to be ashamed of.

LifeExperience · 13/02/2025 14:22

I'm in my mid-60s and I have never used it and never will. No judgement, just not for me. I have friends who've used it, and it looks good for awhile, but when it wears off it looks worse than it ever did. I have one friend who uses lip fillers. She looks better without them.

SantasLargerHelper · 13/02/2025 15:01

I'm not sure that when botox wears off it looks worse. My forehead lines are smoother even when it wears off than they were a few years ago. And I only started last year age 54. It's definitely been beneficial for that.

@XxSideshowAuntSallyx I've never had Botox to make me look younger. I started dying my hair at 19 and that wasn't to make me look younger either.

Right? Dyeing hair can be for a different look not just to cover grey or to look younger.

Lets be honest how many people are actually blonde 😂.

I often think about how much freedom and power women could have if they invested all the money they spend on treatments, fashion. Not judging anyone for feeling pressure to look a certain way, and the normalisation of all this stuff is so powerful. But wow, the amount of independence, travel, freedom women could have instead

I spend approximately £500 a year on cosmetic treatments, haircuts, and "fashion". Just how much independence do I think I might be able to exchange it for? I don't judge people for buying a car on finance and that's a lot more expensive but somehow more acceptable by society.

Resilience · 13/02/2025 15:35

I don't think it's that rare anymore. I genuinely don't. I was recently out with some friends -all of whom I would never have thought used Botox as they spend most of their time make-up free in joggers, etc. 80% of them have had it done. It was a real eye opener for me. Also a little scary as it seems quite a few were having it done by a non-medical professional beautician.

Do I hate the fact that we live in a society where we feel that age/tiredness/stress is unacceptable to show on our faces? Yes. Do I judge women for navigating their way through that society - that DOES still judge women BTW - the best way they can? No. None of us live in a social vacuum. One woman's Botox is on the same spectrum as another woman's hair dye or another woman's must-have designer gown or simply the fact I shave my legs when wearing a skirt. They're just in different places on that spectrum. Most of us are conforming to a greater or lesser degree. It's a rare woman who doesn't.

It's a trend that's gaining traction among men, too.

Newlywedgal · 13/02/2025 15:37

24 - now late 30’s not a line on face

I agree with this, I have a very low maintenance look, I’m the ‘natural’ looking one in my group, also the one who has botox.

Newbie8918 · 13/02/2025 15:43

@Rainingalldayonmyhead I don't know what you mean! I'm definitely a natural blonde. I get lowlights to tone it down 😉🤣

5128gap · 13/02/2025 15:55

I had it for over 20 years. Told the world and his dog from the get go, so in return have had a lot of people tell me with they did or didn't. I can reliably report that the only time you 'know' is when there's been too much used or when the rest of the face is extremely out of step with the treated area. By far the majority of people didn't fall into either category, so I really wouldn't have known had they not shared it.

Cornflakes123 · 12/02/2025 21:11

Just out of interest did it make the 11s softer from the first time you had it ? I hate my 11s and feel like they make me look so grumpy but I’ve heard that Botox prevents and doesn’t cure ? Is this true or does it actually make them look better

It worked right away. I think she warned the first session may only fade it by 80% but I'm sure they disappeared. Obviously not overnight as your face needs to rest for the crinkles to come out! Then it was just maintenance. Not a mark there now. Will try and find an old pic.

Obvs there are exceptions 😂. My father as he aged and went grey always told us he wasn’t going grey he was going blonde. 😂

Thank you for saying this. The comments saying that it's ALWAYS noticeable are really short sighted!

For every woman that you can tell, there are literally tens that you can't. Which is probably why people think it's noticeable 100% of the time 🤣

Sounds good to me. I think I will try it at some stage in the future . Thanks

That looks great! Thanks for this!

It's the only thing I do / pay for. I'm not a procedures / treatments kind of person. But I feel a lot happier for this little change. Good luck!

What is 'looking your age' though.

One would have to go without makeup and not colour one's hair if they want to really look their age

  1. Never had Botox. Don’t dye my (white) hair. Haven’t worn make up for a decade at least. And yet I have a full and happy life and nobody thinks I’m decrepit - largely because they can see all the stuff I can do.

Started at 35, now 53.

I look good for my age. It only lasts 3 months these days so I leave it longer these days.

But it certainly keeps me looking fresher.

I'm 52 and look good for my age and I've never had it.

I am trying to lose a bit of weight (have a BMI of 27 at the moment) and I do wonder if I do lose the weight I will look older.

hazelnutvanillalatte · 13/02/2025 16:28

I started when I was 27 for horizontal forehead lines. Now 30's and get it for forehead lines, 11s and crows feet. The full effect only lasts 3 months on me :(

cardibach · 13/02/2025 16:35

JaroSally · 12/02/2025 20:50

43 and it was amazing in my hair it completely stopped me sweating and having wet hair on hot days
On my forehead it was awful! It flet tingling for about 2 months made me look cross with a heavy brow. I won't bother getting it again foe my forehead but I'm already booked in fir my summer hair botox!

Ooo this is potentially interesting! I have the sweatiest head in the world.

Everybody thinks everybody looks younger than they are. Or so they tell us after a certain age anyway. Who in the world tells a 50 something woman she looks every day of it?

I've got lots of friends the same age give or take a few years. I definetly think some of them look younger than some of the others. As far as I know aprt from one maybe don't have botox. The women on my Dad's side age more than the ones on my Mum's side too.

OctoberandApril · 13/02/2025 16:50

*Definitely

Fresher? Do people who don’t use it look stale or rotten then?

Pianoaholic · 13/02/2025 17:01

Just wondering, if it isn't 'obvious' that someone has had it done (as some are saying), then I don't see the point in having it done really. But from the before and after photos from a PP, you can tell.

I had it twice in my late 40s, it was a drastic treatment for tmjd, a painful condition which is caused by stress and tension. I did wonder whether to ask the clinician to do my frown lines too! (For tmjd it was injected into my left masseter muscle)

Now I am 51 and don't intend to have it done. My hair is pretty grey and I can't be bothered to dye that....basically I have finally got to an age where I am not concerned with what I look like and it's great!
