Weird about eggs

I eat quiches, but I won't eat boiled, fried or poached eggs. Something yukky about egg white and yolk being separate. I eat omelettes and scrambled eggs but they have to be totally combined, cooked through and no white chunks or yellow chunks. And the chicken embryo bit completely removed. Am I weird or what?

YANBU. I don’t like any kind of egg by itself or where mostly egg - i.e. boiled, scrambled, fried, quiche, omelette, anything…(never have although tried at different points literally makes me want to throw up). Aside from in other things wouldn’t touch it at all 🤢

Its a white stringy coil, thats the umbilical cord. It links the embryo to the yolk and its stuck to the the yolk capsule, it can be difficult to get it off.

It’s not an umbilical cord. It’s a balancer, attaches the yolk to the shell to keep it central. Chickens don’t need a cockerel to lay eggs, it’s almost impossible to buy fertilised eggs unless you buy them direct from a free range farm. I’ve kept chickens for years and until they get old, they lay every day unless there’s not enough daylight hours.

Meat spots. That’s all I’m going to say - please feel free to google. I can’t eat the coil or any red inclusions…and I can’t stand the smell of dishwasher crockery and glasses when something eggy has been in there.

I love eggs! I have chickens and the highlight of the day is collecting the eggs. Especially on a weekend when i can hear them clucking and i pick up a freshly laid hot egg!

I used to love poached eggs then one day just couldn't eat them any more!
I think it's because they look like eggs but really that makes no sense!
Sadly am going off omelettes too and I used to LOVE an omelette!
I thought it was just me...🤣

I’ll eat omelettes. I’ll eat friied eggs if they have been cooked on both sides so the white is properly set and not “wobbly” and the yolk has to be set. Can’t bear the runny yellow bit. Poached eggs need to be well cooked so the yolk is solid.

I only eat egg whites when they are part of a recipe and so are not distinguishable on their own.

I agree about fried eggs. Runny yolks make me queasy but a well fried egg where the edges are slightly browned is nice.

What I do hate is the smell of eggs that lingers on crockery and cooking utensils. Nothing seems to get rid of it and it's nasty.

Scrambled eggs are OK when done well but those prepacked 'scrambled eggs' that you get for some hotel breakfasts tastes rubbery and slimy. Not what you want first thing in the morning!

Common misconceptions about the string in your egg yolk. No, it’s not a vein or a baby chick’s umbilical cord. It’s actually part of the egg that, although it looks unnatural, is completely normal and necessary for an egg to develop safely. It’s called a chalaza.
There are two chalazae in an egg, one that suspends from the top of the shell and one from the bottom. Essentially, these rope-like structures are made up of protein, and they attach to the yolk to protect it from bumping into the sides of the eggshell.

Love whole eggs most ways they are cooked and the only thing that bothers me about the structure is if a bit of shell is left in!

It is a natural animal product, healthy and so conveniently individually packed by nature, there is going to be the occasional harmless red spot or more visible cords holding yolk in place or membranes.

We have become too used to perfect uniformity and do not appreciate the variability found in natural products sadly leading to unneeded waste of perfectly good food.

I love eggs in all cooked forms, hot or cold, except for cold runny yolk. A warm scotch egg with a fashionably runny yolk is delicious, but once it has been chilled the yolk is a slimy gelatinous goo. Dreadful.

Sorry but that's nonsense, there's no umbilical cord in an egg. An umbilical cord connects the fetus to the placenta in mammals. Chickens are birds and don't have placentas.

The structure you're thinking of supports the yolk. The yolk is the source of nutrition for the embryo in a fertilised egg.

This is basic GCSE science.

YANBU. I like eggs and have them from time to time but there's something weird about them. I think it's the fact that it's not just hens that produce eggs, all sorts of animals (and humans) do. What grosses me out is if I get the image of eating an egg from a different animal whilst trying to eat a proper hen's egg. There was an episode of One Foot in the Grave where Victor Meldrew received some alligator (I think) eggs for a snake that had got into his house, from time to time I recall the scene where someone tried to boil and eat one, not knowing what it was, and whenever I remember it I can't eat eggs for a while. Like now I've thought of it, it'll be a few weeks before I can have them.

I'm the same with cow's milk. Usually it's fine but sometimes I think of human milk or dog's milk and it puts me off it.

How is drinking cows milk more weird than drinking human milk?!!

I love eggs but I have to remove the tiny red bits and can't eat runny ones either.

I've got and on/off, (mostly off), relationship with eggs. I can't help thinking of them as potential live beings, and being vegetarian doesn't make that any easier.
