If you have not seen the first thread about it don’t reply you will get confused. I have called them up and they said we are going to put him in a children’s home but not until Wednesday so he will be staying at mine till then just thought I would let you know how it’s going.

I literally do the job

And you tell random people confidential information about other people’s children?

How is she a random person ?!!! The lad is staying with her!!!

Jen596 · 10/02/2025 21:03

Poor kid, how awful to be kicked out by your parents at 14. We know how poor outcomes are for looked after children - around half have a criminal conviction by early adulthood. Well done OP for trying to put something in place for this poor kid so they don't end up in an even worse position ie on the street.

LittleRedRidingHoody · 10/02/2025 21:04

@OKNerd so you'd expect to call up SS, tell them you have a child who's moved in with you that you're not comfortable being there - and for them to say what exactly? 'We'll pick him up at some point, but can't tell you when or where for GDPR reasons?'

obviously a stranger ringing up asking confidential information about a random child is completely different to this.

but a child who has been kicked out of their home and is staying with another family- how do you think social services arrange to get this child to a placement without telling said family anything? Really?

The child is currently in her custody after his parents have fired him out.

So why not update that thread rather than start a new one that most folk have no.clue about what's going on 🙄

maybe she's upset and didn't realize her post would be unclear and annoy you 😬

OlderGlaswegianLivingInDevon · 10/02/2025 21:08

Good for you - that was the wisest thing to do.
he may not be in a children's home for long, Social Services will look into everything and yes maybe you will be able to foster him.

Soggydog · 10/02/2025 21:09

Maybe you expect her to kidnap him and not tell him they are taking him to a foster placement? The parents can give S20 agreement for him to stay with her for a few days until they find an appropriate foster placement which is always preferable to emergency which could be anywhere, and often places like Kent for teenagers. Clearly they would obviously then have to speak to her to say when they will be picking him up.

Soggydog · 10/02/2025 21:10

OP Well done for getting it sorted x

No it was 4 pages long

Doggymummar · 10/02/2025 21:12

I was signed over into care when I was 15, it didn't seem to be a long process, but I only might have been told towards the end.

Erm, yes they do. They just call them residential centres or some such. I live in a small Scottish council and we have two, total of about 12 beds.

I visited a young person in a residential placement last week. They still exist

In regards to confidentiality, social workers will share relevant info with anyone who is part of a child's support network/support plan - if the OP is caring for him or providing support they absolutely will communicate with her. It is very common for family friends to be involved when there is a breakdown within a family.

The suggestion that children's homes don't exist is just bonkers. It's a huge industry! Our local authority has six of their own - four 'regular' , one long term for children with physical disabilities, one for short breaks. There are a LOT of private children's homes in our locality, ranging from small basic homes to therapeutic solo placements, specialist for children who have sexually harmful behaviour, ones specific for children with ASD, etc. Still not as many spaces as we actually need sadly, and certainly not as many foster homes as we need.

CousinBob · 10/02/2025 21:35

Well done OP for getting help for him.
