Hi All,

I am getting a bit worried as my left nostril has bloody boogers/mucus in the last month.

no nose bleed or anything and I don’t know why or is this something normal?

does anyone has any similar experience?

thank you!

Might be an infection, like impetigo, we all have these bugs in our noses. Antibiotic cream should help, ask a pharmacist.

It's probably just a tiny little scab up inside your nose somewhere and nothing to worry about. It's unlikely to be any kind of infection if it's only in one nostril rather than both.

If you blow or pick your nose a lot, that will make it worse.

I had this until about a week ago. A slight cold started a few days of after Christmas, nothing nasty but took about a week to shake off. Then as you describe for about a month afterward. Then it just stopped completely but it took me a day or two to realise - I'd become accustomed to a slightly bloody sight every time I blew my nose!

It will clear but may take time.

I find the central heating being higher does this to me in winter

how long you had a bloody nostril after the infection?

The bloody nostril was there from just getting past the cold for roughly another three or four weeks.

If it's impetigo, you'll need antibiotic cream. Does it have a golden yellow crust to it?

If it is impetigo, do not accept a prescription for Crystaside cream as that should only be used externally. I've had to report to the yellow card medication side effect body, as this cream has permanently damaged my septum. Currently waiting to see a consultant.

What are boogers??

11811B · 10/02/2025 17:43

What did the GP say about your mole and shin lumps? Could this be related to those two things? My DP is very lumpy, he's had some lumps removed but the Dr's say he's just generally lumpy so not to keep going back about it.

She was not concerned about the lumps on my shin, she said to use a cream on my mole and if it’s not going away in a month she’ll refer me to a dermatologist. ( I found it pretty weird so I’ll get a second opinion)

now the bloody mucus for a month and when I checked my nostrils there was a bony lump in it, it feels like the worry never ends

was that only one nostril bloody or both?

I've hd this for 3-4 weeks. Just a bunged up nose of solid stuff and blood when I blow. Its just starting to get better.

I've resorted to a good blow to clear out and a wipe around inside my nostril with some vaseline to soften it all. Sleeping with the window cracked open helps too.

bitterlemonade · 10/02/2025 19:04

I had this and it was a staph infection in my nostril. Antibiotics cleared it up.

LouH1981 · 10/02/2025 19:13

My 10 year old son gets the same. He was given a cream from the Dr which clears it straight up whrn

LouH1981 · 10/02/2025 19:15

…whenever it happens. I think it’s just a mild infection from blowing his nose so much and and not getting chance to heal.

Just the left.

What are boogers??

Nasal mucus. Snot is another English slang term.

What are boogers??

Booger is American for bogey.

bitterlemonade · 30/03/2025 15:45

I have just recovered from the exact same… it was a staph infection. The dr prescribed a cream and it cleared up quickly.
