gas safety check was due and so man arrived
single mum so has DC in living room with door shut and dog in bedroom with door shut.
At first I was a little taken back that he left his black woolly hat on and high level scarf thing that countered half his face which he never removed upon entering.

anyway fine … he did the boiler then as he was leaving he noticed a 3d printer on my table and asked what it was so I said.
he then said oh cool can you show me how it worked and I did not really it takes a while 🤣
he then said “ you can make guns with them right “
I replied with “ well we only use it for like figures “
he then said “ but how would one use it to make a gun “ 🙈

anyway so I tried to politely end the convo 🤣 and he picked up a little toy swored for a figure that was made and said “ so could you use it to make a proper knife “

anyway he finally left !
I just thought it was a strange thing for a man who was speaking to a stranger women in her kitchen alone to keep asking !

Bloody weird. Next time keep the dog with you!

Createausername1970 · 07/02/2025 19:32

It was odd.

I might be tempted to fill out a Police on-line report form (we have them in our area). It's a way of reporting something that you think is odd, but not so urgent that you need to talk to someone.

It was probably nothing, but it might be part of a bigger jigsaw.

Are you in a rental property? Who organised this incredibly unprofessional man?

Bringmefood12 · 07/02/2025 19:33

Slightly odd, but he probably saw the documentary on TV where the guy made a gun.... and wondered if it was true. Add in the fact that most people have never seen a 3d printer, he probably got a wee techgasm.

I would have said I've always found my Husky dog more effective than guns or knives, so haven't had the need to print any.

I've heard of printers been used for this purpose before - I always thought what a sad way to use this invention as it can be used for so much good.

Very random chap - I'd definitely go with another company in future.

Can’t say I’d find it particularly weird. If you’ve only ever heard about or seen 3d printers on tv and you watch crime dramas, etc it’s about the only things you hear about them being used for. I would presume he’d never seen one and was just curious.

2025willbemytime · 07/02/2025 20:01

I'd say report. I had to report an engineer for holding, etc his penis a lot when in my house. When I opened the door to him I got a feeling I shouldn't let him in. When I rang them to say do not ever send him back he'd already been red flagged as to not be sent to my house. My sixth sense didn't let me down but I didn't listen. They say they've changed their systems now so he won't be sent back.

agreed. I must admit, I’m one of those people that would think of guns!

I’d certainly complain as this behaviour isn’t very professional. At the same time it appears he’s very inquisitive and possibly doesn’t realise his childish inquisitiveness is borderline creepy in the adult world.
