There seems to be a lot of newbies recently.

Is it my imagination that Mumsnet is having some awful posters lately who have only been around for a short space of time, usually days or a couple of weeks? They seem to relish putting the boot in and ultimately get their responses deleted. They comment on lots of different subjects and they are like dogs with bones and are quite nasty. What is going on?

Examples?

How do you know they are new though, people can name change all the time.

DUsername · 06/02/2025 12:17

Genuine question, how do you know they are newbies? You can change names multiple times..I've been here years and there have always been arseholes!!

ShinyAppleDreamingOfTheSea · 06/02/2025 12:18

I mean I agree with you that there are some unpleasant and unnecessary responses .

chelseahealyslips · 06/02/2025 12:19

I don't think it's anyone new if I'm honest. I've been here a long time, my eldest is nearly 18, under various names over that time and there has always been twats.

As has been said, how can you know they are 'newbies?' @TroysMammy ???

FurryTeacup · 06/02/2025 12:19

I NC approximately weekly, and I’ve been here since 2011. But if you’d searched this user-name, which I adopted only last night or this morning, I would seem as if I’d just arrived.

It’s an open internet forum, not a secret, invite-only club…

I've been on here for many years but name change regularly. I've noticed quite a few posts recently that I wonder whether they've been posted by "journalists", asking for people's stories about specific situations that have happened to them. One OP in particular kept replying to posters saying "yes, but I'm after actual real stories of this situation happening to you and what you did etc", just made me a bit suspicious whether it was a journalist looking for easy fodder!
Also, there's been a few posts that have almost incited benefits bashing. People saying they or someone they know gets more money on benefits than they do from working full time etc, almost trying to wind people up about benefits claimants, which I find highly suspicious with all the governments proposed changes to benefits in the pipeline at the moment.

I've noticed a lot of people namechange, say something nasty, then go back to their original name. It's happened to me. It's cowardly really.

And how are you on here that much that you even notice the supposed new posters?

Again, how do you know?
