Ok....maybe a bit too far, but dd is 2 yo, she's singing along with the lelly kelly advert, and ds (3yo) comes and says to me, 'dd wants some lelly kelly shoes so she can ahve a mobile holder and that make-up'....and dd is stood looking at me with a big grin saying 'peeeease mummy'

make-up!!!! OMG- i'm gonna tear my hair out...she's 2FFS, has seen the advert only a handful of times and already knows some of the song for it!!!!

DD (4) got a pair at the weekend - absolutely loves them and loves the lipgloss stuff that came with them. I don't see the problem at all - she got a pair of shoes that fit her well, that she likes, that I can machine wash . She also went to the park in her nurses outfit with them on. If you can't wear sparkly shoes and a nurses outfit when you are 4 when can you???

Roobie · 09/05/2008 14:29

Just had a google to see what they look like. Some of these look rather lovely imo - still skeptical about the robustness of the sequins though.

Just followed the link. Had never seen them before. Cute! Lurvveee the wellies (want a pair for me!).

Have a DS so (probably) not an issue. I thought little girls were genetically wired to love pink and sparkly? So let 'em go for it FGS. (would ditch the make-up though).

serenity · 09/05/2008 14:42

DD would probably like them, but I don't like the marketing and I think they are hugely overpriced. We do compromise on sparkly though, I wanted to get her a pair of plain black trainers (goes with everything that pink doodles and pastel trainers doesn't!) but I relented and got her black sparkley ones instead - still goes but satisfies that strange 4YO craving for glitter

BrassicaNapusNapobrassica · 09/05/2008 15:04

£39.95 for what is basically a pair of plimsolls with sequins.

I bought my neice a pair of plain white plimsolls from JoJo maman bebe for £8 and a packet of fabric pens from John Lewis for £4 and she produced a pair of shoes that look absolutely brilliant.

Nemoandthefishes · 09/05/2008 15:10

FGS they are sparkly trainers not fishnet stockings and heels
As have said we dont have the money for £40 a pair even though DD1[and yes she is only 2 n half] would love them I dont have an issue with them as shoes and from what I have seen they seem to last..save a tenner and buy them new on ebay

Tortington · 09/05/2008 20:40

its not the price - that was hardly mentioned (that i noticed) it was the comments.

the thread title doesn't say " why buy kelly's when you can have doodles for less?"

there is definatley implied superiority

hence my comment

Twiglett · 09/05/2008 20:46

soupy am sitting here wondering if babydragon has the doodles with the jungle animals and the ants? those are the one twiglette has

as for lelly kelly .. I'm ashamed to say I really like them and really wish I could bring myself to buy them .. and tbh if I could find similar without the Lelly Kelly branding on I'd probably buy them .. BUT I won't because I feel the marketing of the brand is disgustingly vulgar which makes the shoes rather vulgar too

JosafineArmarni · 09/05/2008 20:48

ive found aa pair of acceptable and quite pretty pair of lelly kelly sandles which my dd has been promised this weekend...they are white with pinky/white sparkly bits on(as opposed to bright gaudy colours) although its the price that has me reeling!

Twiglett · 09/05/2008 20:55

I will admit to being horribly snobbish over the Lelly Kelly brand though .. so agree with Custy on this one .. although am fairly certain I shouldn't admit to this

MrsTicklemouse · 09/05/2008 20:56

i am obsessively pink but they are yuck yuck yuck!!!! has anyone ever seen a little girl wearing them???

JosafineArmarni · 09/05/2008 20:58

my friends dd's have the gold trainers..they ARE vile..irgh...and i told her so too

helenelisabeth · 09/05/2008 21:07

Who gives a flying fuck if you want to buy your DD Lelli Kellys?! They lasted my DD a lot longer than her Clarks, thats for sure.

bluefox · 09/05/2008 21:18

Even the name makes me want to vomit. It makes you sound stupid if you say it out loud.

Tortington · 09/05/2008 21:48

pmsl @ twig

hana · 09/05/2008 21:51

they are pretty hideous

missblythe · 09/05/2008 21:57

Twiglett:

Have a look at the Mothercare ones. Honestly, they are lovely, LK-ish, but only rose print, not sequins etc, and much much cheaper. Annoyingly, not on the website, so I can't link to them

micci25 · 09/05/2008 22:01

my dd1 4 is obbsessed with them and is engrossed whenever the ad comes on have finally relented and said i will take for some of the sandalsd next time my mum is off as will have to drive out of town to get some

i dont mind the shoe its the constant advertisng i hate! some ppl cannot afford them and will constantly have kids whinging for them and eventually like me be guilted into getting them, although after she is done with them i will give them to my niece and if they are still in decent condition dd2 will have them after, i am determined to get good wear out of them

callmeovercautious · 09/05/2008 22:08

I can see me buying them for DD in a few years but at 20m her feet are growing so fast I will not pay £40 for them to be trashed at Nursery. I was annoyed enough when she took the toes out of a pair of Hush Puppies the first day

Hulababy · 09/05/2008 22:26

6yo DD loves them and I am happy to buy them fr her. Our local indenendent shoe shop makes sure they fit before they will sll them us, and for DD having the leather inners and uppers is very beneficial as she has very hot feet. Have had them the last couple fo years and they have been very hard wearing, and DD just loves the girly OTT type look. They are no dearer than other comparable brands IME.

Heifer · 09/05/2008 23:07

SA2 - can you keep Ms old ones for me as J would love a pair (but am on a budget until she goes to school and I get a job!)..

I hate the advert - but think that my DD would look fab in a pair of sparkley shoes with the biggist grin on her face as she would be sooo chuffed to own a pair.

Lulu - can you keep the gifts next time, as J would also love that!..

Looking forward to next Local meetup - LK shoes and gifts coming my way (hopefully)

glaskham · 10/05/2008 09:08

Having looked at the link that was posted about i dont mind the plain leather metalic ones, they actually look like nice sensible shoes... Its the gareish sparkley things that are advertised on the tv that make me cringe!!!....i never knew till looking there that they did 'normal' looking shoes!!

OP posts:
fizzbuzz · 10/05/2008 09:18

God, that advert, and those awful overmade up little girls in it. And the UK voice over that talks about litle hearts.

That advert is enough to put anyone of them

CrazyMofo · 10/05/2008 09:35

I think they're CRAP! How the hell are you supposed to clean them?? They would last a week in this house!

glaskham · 10/05/2008 09:40

i believe from others posts on this thread they are actually very hardwearing and can be machine washed.... bonuses yes, but IMHO i'd be scared to wash for fear of melting them or the sequins/beads falling off...
