Ok....maybe a bit too far, but dd is 2 yo, she's singing along with the lelly kelly advert, and ds (3yo) comes and says to me, 'dd wants some lelly kelly shoes so she can ahve a mobile holder and that make-up'....and dd is stood looking at me with a big grin saying 'peeeease mummy'

make-up!!!! OMG- i'm gonna tear my hair out...she's 2FFS, has seen the advert only a handful of times and already knows some of the song for it!!!!

DS loves loves loves this advert, he sings and dances along.
I'm very grateful to be girl-less.

glaskham · 09/05/2008 11:34

How is it snobbish to express our dislike in shoes that think they'll get more sales by throing in some make-up with their shoes that can be for as young as a 2 year old!! Would anyone seriously let their 2/3year old use make-up?....

DD2 (4.6) would love a pair, DD1 (13 yo emo kid) is trying to talk her out of it.

I am on the fence.

Anchovy · 09/05/2008 11:37

Oh I love the snob argument.

Hmm - pay £40 for the pleasure of my daughter having the glittery sequinned feet of a showgirl. Erm, no thanks.

Draw the line at tinsel/sparkle/glitter/fairy wings as part of normal day to day wear? Oh, that doesn't make me a refusenik to the insidious slide towards prettification/differentiation of girls - no, it makes me a snob.

Actually, DD isn't dressed head to toe in Boden or indeed hand-dyed, hand woven hessian sacks - usually just the less garish end of whatever H&M have to offer!

Anchovy · 09/05/2008 11:38

WWB - that's twice we've posted the same thing at the same time!

stoppinattwo · 09/05/2008 12:26

My DD can have as many pairs of these shoes as will fit her princess feet......

And she will wear tham to death all summer, and I guarantee there will be no arguements about putting her shoes on as she absolutely loves them so £40 well spent in my books.

but then if we didnt allow some requests to be me then our kids would become down trodden and never express their opinions. Each to their own, Im sure there are things that I would say no to that others would say yes to

DD is a very girly girl atm, and if you ever met me I am nothing like that, but I love the fact that she isnt afraid to say what she likes even if it contradicts what I would think is right, it means to me that she will always have an opinion and question what she thinks is debatable.

madmuggle · 09/05/2008 12:59

I am a snob at times. However my dislike of these ain't snobbishnes, it's just that I think they look foul, are over-priced and to be frank look as though they'll not last five minutes

anniebear · 09/05/2008 13:44

I cant belive anyone has £45 to waste on a pair of CANVAS shoes for the summer!

that is such a lot of money

I suppose it depends how much money you have got!

If I came in tonight with a pair for each of my DD's .....£90 Divorce would be nearing!!

stickytape · 09/05/2008 13:53

oh my, I have to confess, I bought a pair for dd who is 5. I bought them in the states and they don't give a gift with the shoes there. I think they are bright and sparkly and fun.

WigWamBam · 09/05/2008 13:54

Anchovy - two minds but with a single brain cell thought

Lulumama · 09/05/2008 13:57

i don;t get the colluding in the princessification of little girls argument

DD has many pairs of kellies. DH buys them for her, as he loves them and wants her to have lovely things. she wears jeans most of the time, not like i put her in the shoes, with a tutu and tiara the make up goes in the bin straight away.

don;t try to intimate that buying these somehow makes you a bad or lesser parent

Bumdiddley · 09/05/2008 14:04

I can't believe they are £40..

Are these the ones that come with lip gloss and a mobile phone holder? The advert with the badly dubbed but stupidly catchy song??

Flippin 'eck. Thas more n Clarks

Roobie · 09/05/2008 14:05

Are these the things that look like doodles covered in sequins and beads? My 6yo dd would love a pair (not that she knows they exist) but don't all the bits come off with a bit of rough wear?

DarthVader · 09/05/2008 14:08

The gifts are bizarre

Shoes are ludicrous and imo they manage to look like cheap tat whilst costing loads!

Lulumama · 09/05/2008 14:11

DDs last pair have lasted two summers and autumns... would have kept going but her feet have grown.. they go in the washing machine and come out like new... the sequins seem to be fairly invincible.

if you don;t like them, don;t buy them ! no need to be so at parents who do !

stoppinattwo · 09/05/2008 14:15

HOw are they cheap tat....their shape is exactly the same as other sandles/ shoes...like lulu says dont belittle them just because you dont like/agree with them

Lulumama · 09/05/2008 14:18

Blimey, I don't think there has been any intimation that buying Lelli Kelli shoes makes you a "bad or lesser parent". Most peeople who dislike them seem to be saying they wouldn't buy them - large'ist reason cited being cost/value, lesser reason being not liking sparkles.

They do seem to evoke quite strong reactions, that's for sure - there have been a few threads on them before which have usually divided along these lines.

I've not seen the advert/mobile/lipstick tie in thing, so for me it is just the sparkle point. But I think it takes a lot more than buying your DD a pair of LK's to make a "bad" parent!

Lulumama · 09/05/2008 14:24

it is the inverted snobbery, the 'cheap tat'. cna make them myself for two quid, the colluding in princessifying little girls..blah blah blah

that actually does seek to make those who don;t buy them, somewhoe superior to those that do !

IMO anyway

izzybiz · 09/05/2008 14:24

I too think they are gross.

But, I have bought my Dd a pair for her birthday, she is 4 next week.

Anyone can ask her what she wants for her birthday, and they all get the same answer!
Lurlie kurlies (as she puts it!)

I have let her go out in a tutu and wellies, I dont see anything wrong with letting them choose what they want to wear sometimes, its fun!

£43 of fun, granted, but hey!

Lulumama · 09/05/2008 14:25

they are a sensible shape, yes, hatrick, and fitted properly in the shoe shop. hardly pointy toed 6 inch heels!1

izzybiz · 09/05/2008 14:28

I was surprised at how well made they are acyually.
