I’m 55! Still having periods. I’m so done with this. Anyone else dragged on this long?

Doggymummar · 05/02/2025 20:45

Yes I'm 55 every 28 days regular as clockwork

BeyondMyWits · 05/02/2025 20:49

57 when I had my last period. Feels good that they're done!

EmiliaRuusuvuori · 05/02/2025 20:52

54 and still regular. My DGM was 60 when she finished and my DM was late fifties so I think I've probably got a bit longer to go.

RaininSummer · 05/02/2025 20:52

Yes. I was 58.

CarterBeatsTheDevil · 05/02/2025 20:53

I'm pretty irregular at 49 but my mum I think was still going in her late 50s

Beamur · 05/02/2025 20:54

54 still regular. Although my doctor has said if I don't stop naturally soon they will put me on continuous progesterone to make them stop..

pensionsums · 05/02/2025 21:29

Do you mean you’ve now been 12 months without?

Springflowersmakeforbetterhours · 05/02/2025 21:31

Had 4 last year at 53.. Had 1 already this year..

Ilovemyshed · 05/02/2025 21:33

romanfriendsandcountrywomen · 05/02/2025 21:35

I'm 54 and still going regular as clockwork. Mum was nearly 60, Grandma the same. (Scandalously Grandma got pregnant at 49 in the 1950s and mum remembers being SO UTTERLY EMBARRASSED. Sadly she miscarried quite late on and it was pretty traumatic for everyone.)
Anyway I'm still bloody using contraception at 54. I'm not planning on being a medical miracle!

Like the Mirena?

I think that's one option. I'm not keen.
I take it as tablets for 2 weeks out of every 4 already.

borntobequiet · 05/02/2025 21:38

I had a Mirena fitted in my 60s as I was still having regular, very heavy periods.
It’s unusual, but not unknown. Here’s the conclusion of a case report from the US:

Menopause is often utilized as an all-encompassing term and does not account for the variations in causes or ages of onset. Additionally, physicians are not trained to think of a lack of menopause in the geriatric population. Through careful and extensive history, combined with a thorough family history, providers may adjust care for these rare cases to avoid unnecessary extensive testing that may be cost-ineffective or harmful to the patient. Our case serves as an illustrative example that, when combined with existing literature, highlights the importance of considering a newer holistic approach for practitioners evaluating vaginal bleeding in the geriatric population.

A 65-Year-Old Woman With No Menopause History: A Case Report - PMC

Menopause is a universal occurrence in a woman's life where menstruation ceases, with an average age of 51.4 years in the United States. Late-onset menopause is defined as menopause after age 55. A thorough PubMed search revealed that there are ...

Can’t he have a vasectomy?

Notgivenuphope · 05/02/2025 21:50

My mum was only a bit younger than you and my poor friend is 53 and is just now being hit right in the face by menopause. Bad luck OP.

Rubyupbeat · 05/02/2025 21:50

I was 58 when mine finished, my gp was 62, it's not that unusual.

54 still regular. Although my doctor has said if I don't stop naturally soon they will put me on continuous progesterone to make them stop..

But why? If they aren't causing you any problems the best wait for them to stop naturally.

Zerrin13 · 05/02/2025 21:53

I had my last period a week before my 55th birthday. I thought they were never going to stop!

They are causing problems. I would rather they stop.

catsmother · 05/02/2025 22:00

60 here and currently bleeding. I had regular monthly periods until around 18 months ago; it's only since then that they've become less often and more like every 6 weeks or so.

Idontjetwashthefucker · 05/02/2025 22:03

A little younger at 51 but mine are very regular and every 2 weeks...also the heaviest they've ever been
