I always make:

batch of soup for lunch (not in Summer)
a couple of loaves of bread in bread maker
sandwich filler for the kids - tuna mayo, coronation chicken etc
green juice for me (on a weight loss kick)
overnight oats for teen daughter
used to make breakfast muffins but fallen out it
Chinese style pickled cucumbers - we make a massive batch which my daughters have with almost every meal think it is a social media thing

Just has become part of my routine and does make life easier

Curious what others do

Soup - enough for enough for that day and two lunches ( I put straight in freezer ) - so I end up up with different soups in freezer to decide on day

muffins or tray bake like lemon drizzle - snacks for everyone or if people are popping over

Tzatziki - eat it as side to loads of things.

i also chop fruits like melon/ pineapple/ mango on a Sunday evening so it’s chopped ready in fridge and easy for weekday adding to toddler nursery snack ( or at home). Otherwise I can’t be bothered at 7am

Boope · 05/02/2025 16:09

Cake. For me to eat with a cup of tea every night.

Smittenkitchen · 05/02/2025 16:16

Porridge fingers every other day for DC breakfast. Overnight oats for me when I remember. Tomato sauce in the Thermomix. Butternut squash soup about once a week in winter.

Wemaybebetterstrangers · 05/02/2025 16:17

Literally looking on Deliveroo right now to look at what to buy for tea, from Sainsbury’s.

ItGhoul · 05/02/2025 16:19

Nothing.

Batch cooking's fine if that's your thing, but I just prefer to be spontaneous about what I eat and I don't like preparing stuff in advance.

I'd love the breakfast muffin recipe, or any vegetarian soups!

I don't batch cook/ cook anything weekly myself!

Aliflowers · 05/02/2025 16:33

The only thing I make with regularity are American pancakes. Make a massive batch and freeze them. The kids just pop in the toaster with they want them. I do batch cook every week though. I menu plan and order my food shop for a Sunday evening/Monday morning and then usually prepare dinners for the days I work

This, i barely plan for a day never mind snacks for a week

mathanxiety · 05/02/2025 16:39

I make chicken stock weekly using what is called here in the US a Cornish hen.
Cold meat from said Cornish hen for sandwiches, maybe a chicken pot pie, maybe a Caesar salad.
Soup - my rotation is usually lentil-veg, general veg, minestrone, split pea, carrot and ginger, and mushroom, using weekly homemade stock.
A couple of hard-boiled eggs.
Occasionally boiled potatoes (small ones). We have potatoes salad, potsto and egg salad, smashed potatoes with parm, potatoes go into soups...

BeaAndBen · 05/02/2025 16:40

Banana muffins for DH and DS to grab as breakfast on the go
Hummus for lunch/after school snacks
A few boiled eggs in the fridge for adding to salads, ramen, put in sandwiches or just eaten with salt (if you are my DD)
Batch of cookies of some sort
Soup (only in winter)

Brainfogblue · 05/02/2025 16:51

Flapjacks for the DC for school once or twice a week and a veg and bean soup made from freezer veg and tinned tomatoes and pulses so really easy

Fifthtimelucky · 05/02/2025 16:55

Just granola and mayonnaise for me.

And as I'm the only one who eats them it might be more like once a fortnight than once a week.

Mauro711 · 05/02/2025 16:59

I'm an empty nester and it's less fun to cook for just one so on a Sunday I make different things and put into glass jars to build salads with for the first few days of the week. What I make varies but this week I made:

Bulgur with chopped spring onions
Courgette patties
Roasted cauliflower and broccoli
Spinach frittata
Grated carrots and beetroot
Tzatziki

Then I have some seeds and nuts in the cupboard that I sprinkle over.

I also always have pizza buns in the freezer if one of the kids come home.

Caspianberg · 05/02/2025 17:01

@ItGhoul - it’s not bulk batch cooking. I just know we will use it through the week.
So for example if I make tzatziki today, I would just make a large amount knowing between the three of us we will eat that much over the next 5-6 days. Saves makes mess chopping every day.

If I’m chopping veg for carrot soup, I might as well as enough for another day as it’s an extra 1 min work and means I have something fast for lunch when no time in freezer

we Don’t buy pre made cake or similar as too many allergies, so I know each week if I make something that’s it for the week. I would make something once and that’s it for the week. What I make varies and I make on any day I have time, not a set Sunday

Onlyonekenobe · 05/02/2025 17:03

Chocolate chip cookies - it's the only junk we have at home, and I want it home made (nicer, too).

I wash and peel/chop fruit and leave in tupperware boxes.

Pickled red onion.

Boiled eggs.

Tub of home-cooked oatmeal.

Hummous.

Never have zero leftovers, but also never throw food away.

Caspianberg · 05/02/2025 17:03

@Mauro711 - I need to do that more. Easy way for healthier meals

Miaowzabella · 05/02/2025 17:07

Banana muffins, because I always have bananas that go brown before I can eat them.

AllProperTeaIsTheft · 05/02/2025 17:09

Nothing that regular tbh. Following for inspiration though! I'm gluten free and dairy free atm, so I like the idea of the oat pancakes (which I could make with non-dairy milk).

Createausername1970 · 05/02/2025 17:12

I usually have some boiled eggs in the fridge. They last a week or so in their shells. I snack on these if I get munchy. If they don't get eaten as snacks then they get incorporated into a lunch or a quick tea towards the end of the week, and I boil a few more at the weekend.

I usually have some microwavable containers of homemade lasagne and Mac cheese in the freezer for DS. He works nights, so even on the nights he is off he is more likely to be wanting food at 3 a.m. than when we eat, so he can sort himself out a hot meal from frozen.

I buy a big pack of chicken breasts, slice it all up, divide it into portions, put on a few different marinades then freeze them in the marinades, so when I take the chicken out the freezer for dinner, it's already marinaded.

wipeywipe · 05/02/2025 17:12

muffins for the dc each week. That's about it.

If we wanted tuna mayo, I would just make it on the spot. I make overnight oats the night before too.

JimHalpertsWife · 05/02/2025 17:13

Oh I sometimes make ham and egg cups - two slices of wafer thin ham in each cup of a muffin tray. Crack an egg into each one. Top with grated cheese and some salt and pepper. Bake.

I don't class them as batch cooking though as the family make it through all 12 in a matter of hours.

wipeywipe · 05/02/2025 17:14

@Brainfogblue Can i have your flapjack recipe, I've yet to find a good one.

What's the best vinegar to pickle red onion? Sorry if that's derailing thread.

I too do a pancake batch which we keep in the fridge in a tub and the kids pop into the toaster then have with blueberries - this is ours
