CSA images

In the context of the recent CSA images that appeared overnight I was pretty dismayed (although not surprised) to see the inevitable "As a mother..." comments.

Can I just say, on behalf of all childless/childfree women, that we, too, find CSA abhorrent, upsetting and unconscionable, even though we don't have kids of our own.

I'm sure such comments aren't meant to offend/upset - but nevertheless they do.

It's just different when you are a mother though because you automatically imagine your own kids being abused like that. I used to think the same as you before I had kids too though.

hazelnutvanillalatte · 03/02/2025 15:00

It's not about you? Obviously if you have your own child it affects you differently. No one said other people aren't affected.

If something happened to a dog on my street and someone said 'As someone with a dog...' I wouldn't get huffy about it.

Of course it's not about me. But nor is it about anyone who does have children.

Yes, but people who have children are obviously going to think about their own children when they read about child abuse. Obviously everyone find CSA images appalling and abhorrent, it's just another layer when you're a parent.

I don't think it's anything to be offended by.

Caerulea · 03/02/2025 15:36

Really? Ordinary people were exposed to actual CSA last night without warning & THIS is the thing you want to post on? The affected posters will NEVER unsee those images, not ever. And let's not forget that someone was abused to make them.

You know what comes at the bottom of the list of things to be upset about today? Someone pointing out that things like this can be even more horrific when you have kids yourself.

Or your shitstirring

I admit I fully understand where you’re coming from, I used to think the same before I had kids. My friends would say stuff like “oh it effects you more as a parent” and it would piss me off. But honestly things hurt more when you have a baby yourself. It’s not to say child free people don't feel upset/disgusted at anything like that, but for some reason my reaction to any type of negative news in general is more intensified then pre baby me.

But I don’t go saying it to people, because I remember how much it used to piss me off too.

You sound very self-absorbed.

Tisthedamnseason · 03/02/2025 16:59

I think this is a silly thing to be offended by.

There are all sorts of examples where people might say this sort of thing - there was a story in the news a few months ago about awful abuse of autistic children at a school. If someone said "as a parent of a severely disabled child, this horrifies me" I wouldn't complain that I am also horrified. Or stories of elderly people being abused in care homes "as someone whose mother is in a care home, this has really upset me" I wouldn't complain that this might also upset other people.

Of all the things to be offended about by this episode, this is what you take from it?

Sometimeswinning · 03/02/2025 17:11

The childfree are obsessed with this line. No one cares that you are offended. That’s your responsibility. Did you want a load of apologies on behalf of parents? Or are you just trying to start a random debate?

Nessastats · 03/02/2025 17:30

It always astounds me what people will try and make all about themselves when it's actually nothing to do with them.
