Fatphobia

My Instagram algorithm keeps showing me “plus sized travel” etc clips saying things like it’s not my body that’s wrong it’s the airlines whose seats are too small, claiming this is an example of fatphobia.

Mostly Americans so we are talking about people who are severely obese, not just slightly heavier than they should be (like me!).

Im not looking to judge, I get that this a complex issue but AIBU to think this is such a dangerous mentality?

It’s the same as Iif there was a pro smoking or pro sunbathing without suncream movement is it not?

Couldn't agree more. There will be the eat less and move more trotted out shortly.

Barring medical reasons, it’s literally that simple (although I realise it is hard to do so).

The poster is obviously out for a fight for what ever ridiculous reason he or she has and can't seem to believe that what she thinks isn't true or that others can have an opinion. Gutsy in the username is really ironic... I bet you're one of those people who say "I don't mean to be rude but..." and then insult someone!

85% of votes so far agree with me and so do most of the replies. Not looking for a fight at all but when someone replies with (false) outrage and aggression I’m not supposed to respond?

I'm very conflicted on this whole subject. I think in the end that people are either misguided or goady to celebrate their morbid obesity. I think most (but by no means all) people find the sight of loads of body fat pretty unpleasant so super obese models in underwear or bodycon outfits just annoy me because I know they are being deliberately provocative.

There is an influencer I see quite often (Tiffany as in Tiff and Carrie) who has recently lost 100lb to go from just over 400lb to just over 300lb. She is posting about how her goal is to get below 275lb. I just can't fathom this as 275lb is at least 100lb more than I weigh and I am very unhappy at my weight
and acutely aware of the many health issues I'm facing! I am classified as obese on the BMI chart as I am short like Tiffany. I don't wear skirts or short sleeved tops or anything remotely revealing and feel extremely self conscious in swimwear. So how can someone have a weight of 100lb more than me as a goal?
