I am so excited that I needed to create a thread. I have been successful in my Eurovision ballot and going to the final in May!!! I’ve been a lifelong Eurovision fan and been wanting to go for elevate (but been hard as DCs are little) and this year I’m going! CANT BLOODY WAIT!!

Hi OP, congratulations! I live in Basel, and I'm going to the second semi final, and for the final evening will be next door to the Halle in the St. Jakob park football Stadion.

If you need any tips, for hotels and public transport etc, or have any questions about Basel feel free to drop me a message.

Oh how lovely!!! Basel is beautiful. I can’t wait to visit again!

Aww, I'm so happy for you. I've been obsessed with Eurovision since 1987 and I had my bucket list moment in Liverpool two years ago. I can honestly say it was one of the best experiences of my entire life.

I cried at the moment I entered the arena and saw the staging. Cried again when the feed went live and Ode to Joy started playing.

I wouldn't worry about going alone. If (when. Definitely when!) I go again, I think I'll probably go on my own. I persuaded a friend to come with me to Liverpool - she's a causal Eurovision fan and she definitely had a great time but I felt I was constantly explaining what was happening, why that person was dressed that way, why certain things were funny etc. There were so many people there alone, and the atmosphere was so friendly that we ended up constantly talking to others anyway. I'd have no qualms about going alone next time and feel I'd be able to relax that tiny bit more, not worrying about someone else having a good time.

The people were by far the best thing about the Liverpool experience. I've never before been in a situation where there were so many people but so much friendliness and kindness. I know it's a cliche but it seemed like everyone there were old friends. I met so many incredible people from so many different countries and there was this amazing air of positivity, with everyone looking out for one another.

You are going to have the time of your life. Can't wait to see your updates.

Woo hoo! Have fun!

MayoforSam · 03/02/2025 09:48

Maybe join the local OGAE Eurovision fan club for the U.K.? There will be lots travelling to the event and you’d have some other fans to enjoy it with.
so jealous right now 😂

The entire city will be turned over to Eurovision that week, check out the Eurovision website for the key hotspots. The Basel tourist website, This is Basel, has a really good section on Eurovision information....

But as the previous poster mentioned, please book your hotel ASAP! Also consider hotels in Weil Am Rhein, over the border, there is a B&B hotel there right in front of the tram stop which goes into Basel, and a supermarket if you need to keep within a budget.

LookItsMeAgain · 03/02/2025 13:49

Back when Ireland was on a mad Eurovision winning streak and when Ronan Keating was one of the hosts (think the other was Carrie someone or other) I got tickets to the recording of the final that is done at about 1pm - 4pm where all of the acts perform but they don't do the live voting. It's recorded so that if there is an event such as someone storming the stage, they can instantly switch to the recording and the show should be seamless from the view of someone watching at home.

I'd have loved to have gone to the actual final as that was the one Katrina & the Waves won for the UK (which was the last time the UK won the competition).

Have a wonderful time. Buy merch and a programme if you can.

No one in real life is remotely excited for me so needed to share 😂😂

Well, that's understandable

Well, that's understandable

You had 2 options here, option one was to just think "I'm not very interested in this thread" and click away, the second option was to see a thread full of people being happy for op and op being excited, and to just piss on her chips because it makes you feel better about yourself if others are sad or embarrassed.

Maybe take a look inward as to why you chose the latter route.

Op if you do start a thread then please post a link on this one.

Still time to put in a eurovision entry based on the MN and then you would be on stage 🤣

Not yet!!

Congratulations, but I am a bit concerned for you on the accommodation front! We booked our accommodation as soon as Basel was announced (with free cancellation) and there is very little available now that isn't costing in the thousands!

You will likely have to look some way out of Basel to find something affordable. That said, public transport is good for getting there. But I'd probably budget for a taxi back for such a late finish.

If you plan to fly, you should also book that asap! Again we booked our flights as soon as the city was announced. And an easyjet flight that normally costs around £30 each was already £150! BA were in the several 100's. Plus whether there's any seats left at this point. Although, depending where you are in the UK, train could be an option?

I don't want to take away from your excitement though! Just get on with sorting those things out. DD and I didn't bother even trying for the final! But we did manage to get tickets for both semis so more than happy with that.

You will have a brilliant time, the atmosphere is amazing.

KiffyKiffyKiffy · 03/02/2025 15:11

I thought you meant you were up for performing 🤣

Yes sure 😊

Tomatocutwithazigzagedge · 03/02/2025 16:19

You can fly from Bristol or Manchester with Easyjet and some limited flights with Ryanair from Stansted, if Gatwick availability is poor btw.

Four seats left at £43 out from Luton on Thursday 15th May at the moment op! If you stayed until Tuesday the return flight is £25 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍

HalloBasel · 03/02/2025 18:41

YoungGunsHavingSomeFunCrazyLadiesKeepEmOnTheRun · 05/02/2025 10:28

Just read that a group called Remember Monday are representing us this year, they are amazing singers, hope the song they choose this year does them some justice.

Comefromaway · 05/02/2025 10:41

They are amazing singers. My son has actually played with one of them in a musical theatre concert last year. I really hope they have a good song and can do well.

Pugdogmom · 05/02/2025 11:06

Ignore the lack of fun Police...🤣. Ive been to Basel and its beautiful. Remember its right on the border with Germany and France, so you have several options for hotel bookings. Make sure there are transport links too.
Have fun OP.

Loveumagenta · 05/02/2025 11:09

I know friends who’be gone and had THE best time ever. Super cheesy fun all round!

TheLargestToblerone · 05/02/2025 11:12

How does anyone think you are unreasonable?? Congratulations OP, I honestly think that Eurovision is one of the most joyous things of the year. It makes me smile just thinking about it.
