I am so excited that I needed to create a thread. I have been successful in my Eurovision ballot and going to the final in May!!! I’ve been a lifelong Eurovision fan and been wanting to go for elevate (but been hard as DCs are little) and this year I’m going! CANT BLOODY WAIT!!

Congratulations, you’ll have a ball. DP and I went to a semi final in Copenhagen, and it was fabulous. We had standing tickets (my mistake) but it was fine; we were close to one corner of the stage, so had a very clear view of one of the infamous Polish milkmaids. And a group of Austrians gave us a little flag each to wave - I think they knew they were onto a winner that year, and sure enough, Conchita almost took the roof off.

That sounds so amazing. Conchita live - WOW.

How was it standing?! It’s a long time so I am nervous 😂

Amazing! You'll have the best time. We went to the family show of semi 1 in Liverpool. The atmosphere was great even though it wasn't live, so it will be incredible for the live final.

People telling you to wear something distinctive probably haven't been to Eurovision. Some of the outfits were insane. You would stand out more in jeans and a t-shirt.

Honestly, it was fine. We found a spot near the wheelchair accessible area, there was a shallow ramp with a railing, which was nice to have, and it was a relatively quiet spot - we’re not moshers. It is a long time to be standing, but the time passes quickly. I’d say don’t drink too much during the day, you don’t want to be nipping to the loo throughout the show, but stay hydrated while you’re there.

Wow, congratulations, I'm so jealous!!

If anyone is interested, you can find who is performing at each semi final here https://eurovisionworld.com/esc/eurovision-2025-whos-in-which-semi-final

Apparently the UK is announcing our song and act in March. Wonder who it will be?

Only downside is a standing ticket - how I’ll handle standing for 5h who knows but I guess I’ll be dancing!

I also only got assigned one ticket and I’m nervous about going alone!

Congratulations! You'll have a brilliant time - everyone is so friendly.

I've been a few times (first time waaay back in 2002 in Estonia). It's as much about the travel for us.

As for the no bags rule, they had that in Malmö last year. I bought a lanyard phone cover which also had slots for bank cards and hotel key card. I also had a jacket with several pockets for cigarettes.

Not going this year so have a sparkly time for me 😊

Wow! 2002 must’ve been brilliant. Runawayyyy.

Great idea about the lanyard for my cards etc. What did you do with your jacket?

Shall we start a thread for fellow fans? Not sure what sub forum it’d be!

Just tied it round my waist. We've always had seats though.

There's a poster called (I think) RedToothbrush who has started threads before in the Telly Addicts board.

maddening · 02/02/2025 22:10

Amazing - we went to the Liverpool show (final dress rehearsal) it was fabulous! Enjoy!

EconomyClassRockstar · 02/02/2025 22:12

I'm a little disappointed. When I clicked on the thread, I presumed you were from Iceland and had somehow got onto the show after the rest of the Eurovision Icelanders got blown up by elves. And then I was going to say, just go with Sigrit's song in the first place and you'll 100% win.

LongDarkTeatime · 02/02/2025 22:20

Have a fabulous time @HalloBasel 🤩💃🏻🕺🏼🇪🇺

HalloBasel · 02/02/2025 19:02

Thank you all!! My family are not big fans and so don’t understand my excitement!!!!

Neither am I but I am very happy for you

Comefromaway · 02/02/2025 22:43

We were allowed (small) bags in Liverpool. Mine was too big so I bought a very cheap one in Primark. Not sure how I’d have managed due to things like keys, inhaler & Dd needed sanitary protection.

the atmosphere was great. And the set changes were insane.

Gingerbreadloony · 02/02/2025 22:51

Definitely don’t worry about going alone! Some of my best friends are people I’ve met at gigs (often in the queue to get in!) when I’ve been on my own and just got chatting to people. You’re all there because you’re fans do you have that in common already and everyone will be so excited. You’ll have a ball 🎉

ScouseQueen · 02/02/2025 22:52

Congrats! Have been a fan for years and managed to get semi final tickets when we hosted here - brilliantly if I do say so even though biased 😎 Fantastic atmosphere and yes the speed of the set changes was unreal. Enjoy!

mitogoshigg · 02/02/2025 23:00

Congrats op!

As to shoes for 5 hours, I did 8 hours for Taylor Swift - well worn in doc martens with memory foam insoles was my footwear of choice.

TravellingTartan · 02/02/2025 23:00

Completely misunderstood your OP and went to google your username to hear your song!!

mathanxiety · 02/02/2025 23:05

I've been to two Eurovisions, and dress rehearsals for two others. It was great fun, although I haven't been to anything Eurovision related for a couple of decades. They lost me when they dropped the orchestra. 🤣

BaselCalling · 03/02/2025 05:46

Congratulations!

I live in Basel, and strongly advise you to book your accommodation ASAP.

There is so much to do here, even try to plan for a holiday!

Have a great time!

Tomatocutwithazigzagedge · 03/02/2025 05:54

Hi OP, congratulations! I live in Basel, and I'm going to the second semi final, and for the final evening will be next door to the Halle in the St. Jakob park football Stadion.

If you need any tips, for hotels and public transport etc, or have any questions about Basel feel free to drop me a message.

Tomatocutwithazigzagedge · 03/02/2025 06:05

P. S. To anyone who tried for tickets, I read in the local press that they planned another release of ticket sales soon. They didn't sell all of the tickets on the first sale.
