Overheard conversation earlier today:-

DD (about 12) and MIL (she had a distinct IL quality ) in a general store.

DD - Well, I'll want the collar to be pretty as well as comfy.

MIL - Yes you will, this one's nice.

DD - Ooh yes that's lovely, it's pink so everyone will know it's my dog. Is it comfy do you think?

MIL - I don't really know, try it on.

DD - (Putting on dog collar, pulls out pocket mirror to look at self) Yeah, that's really comfy. Let's get this one.

[At this point mum walks in]

Mum - That's not a necklace you know.

DD - I know. Granny said she's going to get me a dog!

[Cue look of utter loathing focused on MIL and a very long silence]

Sadly I had to leave at this point so missed the fallout. Needless to say, I don't think Granny had mentioned her plans to mum

That's

How long till we see the 'AIBU - my MIL wants to buy DD a dog and didn't ask us first' thread?

oh, that is a brilliant overheard conversation. Wonder if MIL will turn up on the doorstep with new dog - and what are the mother's chances of stopping the whole thing?

I just keep imagining the mum trying to calmly explain that they are not getting a dog...

... while her DD was still wearing the collar!
