Any had experienced with a colonoscopy? Having second thoughts about mine

I have a colonoscopy booked in for Wednesday due to some rectal bleeding, my bloods tests and FIT test were all normal which is reassuring.

I am just reading the preparation booklet and I am abit worried about the risks stated.
The main ones are infection, hole in bowel, heart attack or stroke and of course death.

Has anyone had a bad a bad experience with a colonoscopy?
I am having second thoughts after reading the leaflet, I have young children and can't imagine the thought of something happening to me.

I’ve had about 15 and no issues at all apart from my last one and that was due to a then undiagnosed ovarian cyst pressing on the bowel which has now been removed

Hi
I just wanted to give an update.
I had the colonoscopy and all went well.

I opted for the gas and air and it wasn't as bad as what I thought it would be apart from a dodgy corner.

I had some small piles which the consultant banded up.
I am over the moon and all that worrying for nothing.

Thank you to everyone who posted Grin

Good news and great that you got your piles banded there and then, hope it’s not too painful, I know people wait months for this procedure.

@BSky - Thank you if it wasn't for the reassuring comments on this thread I probably wouldn't have gone and just kept wondering.

@Mindymomo - Thank you, yes the consultant asked me there and then if I wanted them banding up.

Oh that's such good news !

May your banded piles shrink to nothing.

Chuffed for you, and well done with persevering 👊
