Anyone else not enjoy the season change to Spring?

I know this is an unusual one but I get seasonal affective disorder for spring not autumn.
In my neck of the woods, there are little signs of spring coming, and it makes me feel very low. Once it's here I get used to it and like it, and I enjoy summer but its the change that upsets me. Anyone else?

I do love spring, the smells, the light mornings and the sun on my face, and fully intend to sit on the patio in my anorak and drink a glass of Rose this weekend.

BUT. It also means jobs. Lawn mowing, weeding, cleaning stuff, keeping overgrown stuff back, the ability to sit down at the weekend and just relax is gone.

Could it be that?

No it's not connected to anything like having to do stuff or being too hot etc . The closest match is when a pp said its a sense of existential dread . That's exactly it

We have this exact same thread every year.

Not saying the following this you OP but as soon as April hits you have the thread where people are ‘dreading’ a heat wave because last year was so hot’, despite it barely getting over 25C last year even in the South East.

Then those same people are looking forward to it being winter and being ‘cozy’ and drinking ‘hot choc’.

No not me . Also a totally different thing than I was saying!

I think a pp may be correct in the fact it may be the depletion of your vit D levels from the lack of daylight throughout the winter, I had never thought of it this way but it makes perfect sense.
I'm the opposite I love spring, I love seeing things coming back to life and I literally countdown to summer for proper daylight.
That said I hate 21st June as it's downhill from there whereas the 21st December it is on the up

This is me!! But I don't get it for autumn or winter

I would live in permanent Winter if I could.

Any change of season gives me a funny feeling a can't describe! It's not sadness though. Maybe anxiety and fear of change?

Also south west, would you say it's the second half of September? I have noticed this too (hoping we have the same day now! ☺️)

Last year it was at the end of August, it totally threw me with how early it was and I thought my 'senses' were off but they weren't. Even the late summer we got in September wasn't the same, it had an Autumn "feel'. But I can't describe it to people without feeling like I sound a bit nutty!

I love feeling the seasons change though!

I get very anxious and low in spring. I’m not sure why. It’s definitely my least favourite season though.

Same, find it a sad season. Autumn is my favourite.

AndThereSheGoes · 01/02/2025 08:47

I get it.

Used to HATE spring but made peace with it through having my own garden but still find it difficult .

For me it's everything gets very busy - school pressure, spring clean, new season clothes, tons of birthdays, Easter, holidays etc in a barrage of never ending tasks.
Plus weathers is so unpredictable. If it's sunny it's freezing if it's dry it's grey, if it's warm it's wet.

I relax about May when everything calms down and we get reliably good weather, lots of light and you can put on a T shirt and sandals without needing tons of layers and or waterproofs.

RedHelenB · 01/02/2025 08:48

No I love it. The lengthening days, the first snowdrop and new born lambs.

I don't like it because it reminds me another winter is coming to an end with no snow. Not seen any proper stuff for 4 years now.

Whereabouts do you live to have had no snow at all?

octoegg · 01/02/2025 08:50

I don't find spring sad personally, but on a previous occasion of hearing someone dislike spring, I found this poem which I really enjoyed:

Thank you for posting as I’ve been finding the transition difficult.
But I also find summer very difficult. I have never been able to describe what it is - the pressure that everyone else starts to feel better with the light and I feel the same or even worse?? I do genuinely like spring for its flowers and blossom but the warming weather and change in light I’m finding hard and feel more anxious.

the80sweregreat · 01/02/2025 08:54

I don't like the summer months much and have to opposite to those who love it warm or really hot. Much prefer autumn / winter

CruCru · 01/02/2025 09:04

I think I know what you mean. I am usually at my lowest about mid February - I suspect it is because that’s about as much of the winter and dark I can take.

I also find the Spring term the hardest. The Autumn term starts off warm and ends with Christmas. The summer term is quite short and, after the exams, has a load of fun stuff like sports day. The Spring term starts in the dark slump after Christmas, takes in Lent and ends before Easter.

funinthesun19 · 01/02/2025 09:10

I love it and don’t love it at the same time. I love when winter is on its way out, but Spring always stirs up some sad feelings for me. Same with September when Autumn starts to appear. It’s all to do with events that have happened in those months in the past.
