Bringing toddler out in the rain

Just started a new nanny position. Mother of the child (20 months) is quite insistent that he should be brought out twice a day even if its raining. He has rain gear, I do not. Just arrived this morning to be told he loves the library, its only a 30 minute walk each way, it's lashing rain here. I said if it eases of later I will get out with him. Questioned me yesterday if we went to the park. Has sent me numerous groups, all of which are at least 20 minutes walk away, not allowed take him out in the car. Where they live is also quite hilly and buggy isn't the best.

Mam seems to walk everywhere and always has her rain gear on. AIBU to not want to go out twice a day when the weather is bad.

Oh fgs, she's not saying she wants to stay indoors all day every day! She's saying she doesn't want to walk everywhere when it's raining! The child's mum is insisting she walks everywhere, no matter the weather...

Honestly OP, people on here only love to congratulate themselves on how brilliant they are and if you're not doing things exactly how it was for them, then you're lazy/not right for the job/etc. They find it impossible to fully imagine the situation you are describing, either through a lack of empathy or reading comprehension. Then you've got the people that probably took their kids out in the rain once or twice a week at max (and probably used the car lots too) and are now acting like they're Aquaman. Then you've got the ones who love nothing more than pounding the pavement as a lifestyle choice and think you should do the same...🙄

And if this were her own child she could stay in 24/7 or drive everywhere in weather she considered inclement. But this is a requirement of the job, and a perfectly normal one.

a lot of people do, what's the big deal?
They walk. Sometimes it rains. So what? Some might try to twist it into "no-one goes for a walk specifically when it rains" but that's not even the question.

Some people don't even drive, for many others rain might not be the ideal weather but it's still a non-issue.

But... OP does drive? OP wants to drive sometimes, particularly when it's raining. How other people commute doesn't matter!? Why on earth would it 😂
OP is being expected by her employer to walk for two hours a day, in the rain, when she doesn't want to - and it is also arguably more shit for the child's development to be strapped in a buggy under a raincoat for long periods of time, rather than a quick nip in the car to whatever activity is appropriate for a 1.5 YO. She is not saying she wants to use the car for EVERY journey, or stay in ALL day.

Because that’s what her current employer wants her to do?

@strawberrycrumbles

oh dear, you are still here?
Eeeerrrr. Yep. Because ya know. It's not your private internet.

Once again someone who who thinks they are some sort of authority

@DonnyBurrito
Don't try to have a conversation with @strawberrycrumbles They've got themselves all tangled in a knot of 'can't back out' 😂

We know no reasonable person goes out in icy horizontal rain unless there is no alternative. But according to @strawberrycrumbles it's completely reasonable.

But they've pinned their mast to the wall so are now desperately trying to justify their utterings.

Light rain is fine. Even reasonable rain if it's a short distance. But to suggest ALL rain in ALL seasons is walking weather and with a toddler is clearly unreasonable behaviour.

Or maybe they live in some country that doesn't hit 0 degrees and have heavy blinding rain

@HeronWing said it's a perfectly normal requirement of being a nanny! 😂 What the actual F?
Being outside for hours in all weathers is a normal requirement for: forest school teachers, hiking expedition leaders, highway maintenance operative, lollypop ladies... I'm actually struggling to think of any more jobs where it is a requirement of their job, because it's actually really uncommon that any employer would insist that when there is an easier and more practical solution for the employee.
