If you haven't worn it yet?
Debate with ds 10!. We are going for a beach walk tomorrow and told him it's a great opportunity to wear his new wellies..
Bought months ago in the sale...
He declared they aren't new...
I said they are!!
Am I going to be shamed by a pair of Croc wellies and a 10 year old??

Of course they're new, just because they've been sitting in the cupboard for a while, it doesn't make them old, otherwise when we buy things from the shops they would already be old, having sat on the shelves for a while.

What if it is unworn and 50 years old? Suppose that is new too.

In Spanish they actually have a verb which means to wear or use for the first time.

It's new until it's been washed here! (we're not a 'wash everything as soon as it's spent 5 minutes being worn' household though). And I don't know how I'd apply that to boots, but I'd definitely say they were new).
