Ok I was the peri menopause post wanting to be alone etc booked my night away in a Travelodge this week , had a lovely time wandering about, 2 course meal, wine, breakfast all for £60. Husband is fantastic and says if we can afford, why not do it once a month to give me the time and space i need. Is this normal and ok to do this, and does anyone else do this?

and yes ive booked for next month for £60 :)

Brilliant! I did this unexpectedly due to other commitments the other month it was fab. Sat in bed watching Strictly, it's amazing how much it frees your brain up!

BMW6 · 24/01/2025 16:53

Fabulous idea, try Premier Inns as I think they are better than Travelodge!

KevinAndTracy · 24/01/2025 16:50

Sounds fab!

Is it £60 for the hotel room, breakfast and dinner? That's a great deal!

yes, the room is £36, meal deal £14 and breakfast £10, just searched the deals on Travelodge, oh but i did spend £7 on 2 glasses of wine in the restaurant (happy hour ...)

Completely normal, and very good for recharging the batteries.

That just means 4% of people voting are unreasonable people. There's always some!

Trad wives who think you should be joined at the hip with your DH and would never dream of doing such a thing 😁

They probably just think you should do Premier Inn over Travelodge. you should, the breakfast at Premier Inn is way better.
Why are you so worried about this not being "ok"? You'll never please everyone in this life anyway.

JessiesJ99 · 24/01/2025 16:59

Really??? Your husband was seriously ok with this?! What did he do for the evening? Was left with a microwave meal I guess! MN is crazy!!!

Abracadabra12345 · 24/01/2025 17:02

My children are adult but our young adult son is learning-disabled so is at home. I go away for 2 nights a month to a fairly local seaside resort where it's cheap (PI) and love the complete change of scenery without wasting too long on travel. There's plenty to do if I want to.

I get you with the showers. I have 2 deep baths a day!

Last time, it was cold, windy and rainy and I just lay on the bed that day snacking, watching junk tv, doing crosswords then having a bath, and had a fabulous time!

My OH in turn gets the house to himself while our son is out, something I'd love for myself so I don't feel guilty. He's not interested in his own solo time away

Orchidsunlight · 24/01/2025 17:08

That sounds wonderful, i think I am definately starting a new routine for me with this x

I haven't voted because you shouldn't be asking strangers for validation. Both you and your husband agree with this. It's no one else's business.

elliesmummy19 · 24/01/2025 17:12

Sounds fantastic!

I went away by myself for a few days last year to see my favourite band and had an absolutely lovely time! Enjoy! You’re happy, your husband’s happy that’s all that matters. Stuff what anyone else thinks!

Flamingosarentreal · 24/01/2025 17:40

i do this a few times a year- sometimes I visit friends in other parts of the country , other times i book a rooom by myself, get snacks, books and enjoy an in room picnic. My plan is to try all and visit all the UK counties.

Raindropskeepfallinonmyhead · 24/01/2025 17:41

I would give my right arm to do this!!

CluelessAsFuck · 24/01/2025 17:41

Yes do it!

DancefloorAcrobatics · 24/01/2025 17:43

I do this once a year! I rent a little cottage- either national park or seaside- for 3-4 nights. Then it's walks and reading all day long! Sometimes my Mum joins me, which is lovely as we usually want to do similar things. So we'll be sitting somewhere each being engrossed in a book.
I've done this since youngest was 9. I can't see any issues with DH looking after the DC. They are his as much as mine...

Ghostedornot · 24/01/2025 17:44

Absolutely! I’m going away next week for one night on my own - I can’t bloody wait!! I’m going to swim in the hotel pool, have a lovely meal, a long hot shower and I will enjoy many snacks in my room. It can’t come quick enough! It’s in my hometown too and didn’t cost me anything 😀

CluelessAsFuck · 24/01/2025 17:44

My DH took himself off to his parents for 3 weeks (they live abroad). Did I mind? Nooooo! Does he mind when I go travelling for work? Nooooo! Absence makes the heart grow fonder, right?!

Some people will vote YABU when an OP asks what they consider to be a ridiculous question.

Considering you've done it, you could afford it, you can afford to do it again and your DH is fine with you doing it again, "Is it ok to do this" will be considered as a ridiculous question to some I expect.
