The government are set on terrifying people and pushing their agenda on climate change. Don’t listen to them. God knows better. Proceed with common sense and caution and secure your own things. Peace and love.

West Midlands here and wow the winds have already hit here and it sounds very bad out there here already before it was scheduled to land here! It's not sounding good at all atm! Really hope it dies down soon!

CherryBerry99 · 24/01/2025 04:34

I'm in NI and have been woken up by the wind. It sounds really bad, it's making me quite anxious actually and I'm really hoping the power stays on

Calamitousness · 24/01/2025 04:42

Yanbu. You’ll get some people who won’t understand the need for caution but they are the people who just have never been personally affected. Perhaps they live in dense urban settings which will still be affected but slightly less so. rural coastal areas are always more affected. It’s the damage it can cause/ fear of falling debris and loss of services like power that are a worry and rightly so. I quite like bad weather and high winds but not in severity when people do get hurt.

Summertimewoes · 24/01/2025 05:41

Awake since 4am with the noise. Never heard anything like it.
very worried , hoping it passes quickly .
Im Dublin !

Kendodd · 23/01/2025 20:28

I'm the opposite, I love a good storm!

Including the damage and danger to life?

NormaleKartoffeln · 24/01/2025 06:20

Live on a Scottish Island, I can hear it pretty loud outside already, but we're only yellow warning just now (amber later). Schools still open but no school transport (we're in an area where lots of folk rely on school buses). DC on study leave though. Ferries and planes affected.

mnahmnah · 24/01/2025 06:49

I’m in England and only yellow warning, but the wind has kept me awake all night, gates banging, bins over and I’m not looking forward to my drive to work! I can’t imagine how bad it must be in Amber and red areas.

Stay safe everyone!

Good grief. God knows better? Aye, he's been doing a grand job in the world these past few years.

Which of the gods would that be then?

2JFDIYOLO · 24/01/2025 07:40

All the best, everyone

brunettemic · 24/01/2025 07:53

Nope, except maybe that the dog might get blown away as he seems fascinated by it.

Do you think? Seems to me government s very reluctant to say climate change is a genuine problem.

It must be frightening, hope you are ok

KenAdams · 24/01/2025 08:19

Hope those of you on coastal areas are OK.

user2848502016 · 24/01/2025 09:28

Not that bothered. We have just taken sensible precautions like make sure everything in the garden is secure etc.
We are both WFH instead of going in to the office as we were planning to.
I went to the shop last night to make sure we had enough food for the day so we didn't need to go out.
We're in an amber warning area and schools are closed, buses still running.
I can't decide if these weather warnings are a good or bad thing, it's good to be prepared but they make a lot of people panic when there's no need. We were on a red warning before Christmas and it wasn't that bad.
The worst thing would be a power cut but we're ok so far!

SparkyBlue · 24/01/2025 10:11

I hope everyone got through it ok. A friend had some very serious damage done to their house so I feel so sorry for them. It's an awful thing to be facing into. At least all the schools and most workplaces are closed so a lazy morning here.

Inextremis · 24/01/2025 11:50

Checking in after the storm. All good here (west of Ireland), no damage to house or occupants - we woke up at 5 am because it was so loud - but all the trees have stayed up and I can't see any damage to neighbours. No power, but that was to be expected. Hope it (the power, not the storm!) comes back today!

Spudstogo · 23/01/2025 15:35

@FeralNun you are so right. Ive moved my bins and got a torch and have some battery operated lights. Charged phone etc.
My cat is very restless and animsls always pick up on atmospheric changes.
Wasnt like this for last few storms but ive got a bad feeling about this one.😬

That’s a totally normal response and doesn’t need to be driven with anxiety. I live in an exposed valley and it’s always windy here. My bins are locked away and we’ve contingencies for loss of power etc. Just crack on.

Inkyblue123 · 24/01/2025 11:52

You survived?

mnahmnah · 24/01/2025 16:30

Well my drive to work was one big wheelie bin graveyard 🤣 One road blocked by a fallen tree. And a lot of noise all day from the wind battering the building. But it’s totally calm now

Thegreenandpurpleone · 24/01/2025 18:43

Well we got through it here, the wind was so noisy I put the TV and radio on while I worked to drown it out. Didn’t take the dog out til lunchtime as it sounded so awful, as soon as we got outside I realised the actual wind was quieter than I thought and some of the noise was our fencing rattling in its foundations. 😀 However it did survive, as did our roof which I was also worried about. I hope everyone is doing OK, and the storm has left you/is receding.

Cece92 · 24/01/2025 19:47

Power came back on after 8 hours. Had to signal on phone too so was starting to worry as I don't have a house phone. Had a couple torches and the daughter used the portable charger lol xxx
