Elderly dog weird lumps

Lovemydogmygirl · 21/01/2025 21:10

I am very concerned about my 16 year old dog. Recently, she stopped eating her usual food and started drinking a lot of water. She also had diarrhoea. The diarrhoea has stopped, and her eating has resumed. Though her appetite is not as great as it was a month ago, she's eating when she wants, which is the main thing. She's also gone back to drinking normal amounts of water. Something I noticed today was what appears to be 2 lumps on either side of her face. One side is larger. When I touch it, she seems to be in some sort of discomfort. I'll attach photos, hoping someone could help me figure out what they could be, please

She’s a lovely girl, a vet would probably be your best bet to put your mind at ease, even if the cost is a tough one to absorb.

MyLittleDog · 21/01/2025 21:16

You have to get her seen by a vet. Dogs are very good at masking pain so she's probably in more pain than you realise.

Lovemydogmygirl · 21/01/2025 21:22

She has an appointment at the vets in the morning. I noticed these lumps earlier on, and I've been worried sick

Wait to speak to your vet

Speculation won’t be helpful and likely just leave you worrying more

OK, I'm glad that you have an appointment at the vet for her. I suspect that it may be tooth abscess.

Oh, I'm glad she's being seen tomorrow. Try not to worry tonight then (easier said than done I know).
Hope she'll be ok, she's lovely❤

Aw, not silly at all! We love our pets and any way to reach out for help shows how much we love them. Good luck with vet's appt. It's so heartbreaking when they get older. Our beautiful girl had lumps and they were cysts, vet said to just let them be as operation wasn't necessary. One grew so big it looked like she had a boob, bless her. Xxx

vodkaredbullgirl · 21/01/2025 22:04

Could be a tooth abscess, my dog had them and had taken tooth out.

Onlyconnection · 21/01/2025 22:17

Agreed I think tooth root abscesses. Hopefully a dental procedure to remove them will sort her.

faeriesandelves · 21/01/2025 22:18

I also suspect possible dental problem and tooth abcess. Happened to one of my elderly dogs. Teeth out and course of Antibiotics.

Lovemydogmygirl · 22/01/2025 10:41

She's been to the vets, and they suspect a tooth absess. They can't get in her mouth because she won't let them. Waiting on blood results, and we will go from there in regards to treatment, etc. She's also lost a fair bit of weight, my poor girl :(

Once it's out she will be back eating in no time.

I came on to say tooth. My old girl has had some removed. She's right as rain now

OldTinHat · 22/01/2025 11:22

I rehomed an 8yr old lady last autumn and the vets said she needed a tooth removed (apparently had already had several out).

Anyway, she went in last Thursday. More than one tooth was taken out. She has just finished her antibiotics and metacam and is a very happy dog! Still sore, will take another week odd to fully heal, but the procedure was straightforward. Took an hour.

Don't worry, OP. Your dog will be absolutely fine after her dental, I'm sure of it. And much happier!

Lovemydogmygirl · 22/01/2025 16:15

Her blood test results are back, and they think she's in the early stages of kidney failure. She's going to be treated at home for 10 days and see how her kidneys are doing after 10 days of treatment.

Fingers crossed the treatment improves her kidney function.
