To ask what to do in Milton Keynes for a few hours with husband?

We are going to see a gig in Milton Keynes in a couple of weeks and my husband and I will have some time in Milton Keynes that afternoon. If you know Milton Keynes, what would you recommend we do? We don't really drink anymore (long story) but we would love some recommendations for food / places to visit.

If it was me and my husband I would go skiing at the snow dome

DelilahA · 21/01/2025 16:10

@GoulashSoup I was going to suggest that too!

FartyAnimal · 21/01/2025 16:10

Weep

Bletchley park museum? Very interesting place.

Free time during the day in a hotel room with no kids around?? I know what I'd do 😆

FlimFlambros · 21/01/2025 16:14

If you are into Sci Fi then the National Film and Sci-fi museum nationalfilmandscifimuseum.com/ is in Milton Keynes. Or old school gaming The Pixel Bunker https://www.thepixelbunker.com/

I've only ever been once and went there (they are both in the same place so I am of little help, I think we ended up in Wagamammas for lunch because we are basic and we were with the kids..

The Pixel Bunker - The Pixel Bunker

The reality whenever I used to visit was to spend ages in the car repeating "haven't we just gone round this roundabout?" about 73 times.

Yeah, but what would you do with the other three hours and 58 minutes?

Purplebunnie · 21/01/2025 16:24

MK shopping centre is pretty good, used to love it. All the years I lived there I never went to Bletchley Park and regret that. Is the gig in the centre or is it further out? If out and you're on the correct side then Waddesdon Manor is gorgeous

Alwaystired94 · 21/01/2025 16:26

Bletchley Park is always a good idea!

besides that, depending on which venue you're seeing a gig at there will be food places and such nearby.

frenchnoodle · 21/01/2025 16:29

If he gig is MK Stadium Bletchly park isn't that far, you can walk it in 40 minutes.

EggandStress · 21/01/2025 16:29

Bletchley Park or MK Gallery mkgallery.org

I've seen some good exhibitions there. It's Vanessa Bell at the moment.

Hillarious · 21/01/2025 16:39

Ikea for meatballs and a few picture frames.

Fillmeinfan · 21/01/2025 16:45

The gig is seeing Craig David and he is going to be at the Marshall Arena. My husband is going to hate it and asked me to get seats at the back but sadly (for him!) the tickets are standing only.

Just in case it's confusing when travelling around Milton Keynes, that is exactly the same place as Stadium MK, all the signs will say MK Stadium or "Stadium MK"

5foot5 · 21/01/2025 17:38

Definitely Bletchley Park and the National Museum of Computing.

DH and I visited Bletchley Park years ago on an organised trip but would love to go again. In fact we were saying just recently that we might make a special journey there this year, have an overnight in MK and visit Bletchley.

tpmumtobe · 21/01/2025 17:41

Bletchley is excellent, but massive. If you want something smaller then the Milton Keynes museum is worth a trip, very quirky but a lot of fun. There's a room dedicated to the history of the phone!

BourbonsAreOverated · 21/01/2025 17:41

There’s a retro game arcade it’s bloody brilliant

edites because someone’s mentioned it already.

so I second pixel bunker!!

BilboBlaggin · 21/01/2025 17:44

See if you can go round all of their roundabouts. I think there's at least 130.

Purplebunnie · 21/01/2025 18:08

There's also Simply Race to appease your DH. Motorsport racing simulators. In the Theatre District where there's lots of restaurants,

Fillmeinfan · 21/01/2025 18:48

Thanks everyone! Really appreciate the advice. Will check out the Bletchley park and restaurants in the theatre district.

Browns Brasserie - went there for our team Christmas lunch and the food was really nice.

My favourite things in Milton Keynes:
canal walks, where you can see all sorts of things, from medieval fishponds (www.theparkstrust.com/our-work/heritage/woolstone-medieval-fishponds/) to spooky bridges (cityofsecrets.blog/2018/04/09/railway-tunnel-bridge-bradwell/)
walks along the Ouzel - https://www.theparkstrust.com/find-a-park/ouzel-valley-parkrk*_
the Iron Trunk aqueduct: https://canalrivertrust.org.uk/canals-and-rivers/places-to-visit/cosgrove-and-wolvertonon*_

MK is a fantastic place to walk, run or cycle as it has lots of parks, green spaces and red ways: https://getaroundmk.org.uk/cycling/where-to-ride/redways#:~:text=Milton%20Keynes%20has%20over%20200,seen%20on%20our%20interactive%20mapap*_.

It’s also full of history - check out https://www.theparkstrust.com/find-a-park/ouzel-valley-parkrk*_

Watersports: https://www.willenlake.org.uk/activities/s/*_

Indoor things? Shopping, rock climbing, ice skating, the Snozone, iFly…

Culture? The Milton Keynes museum (miltonkeynesmuseum.org.uk), which is fab.
