If you win the lottery tomorrow...

Would you quit work?
I've bought a ticket for the euro millions tomorrow. Yes, I know there's pretty much no chance of winning anything, but it's just a bit of fun.
If I were to win, I would work my notice, less annual leave, because I wouldn't want to dump anyone in it, but then I'd be gone.
I'm not bothered about "stuff" but I would love the security it would give me, dh and my children.

No, I would continue to go to work and sabotage everything as my new hobby.

PlantDoctor · 20/01/2025 20:56

Oh I love planning my winnings. Hardly ever get a ticket but when I do the dreaming is worth the money!

I really like my job but I'd definitely quit. I can think of a million things to spend my free time doing 🤩

KarlaKK · 20/01/2025 20:58

I'd do the same - hand in my notice, work my notice period out and leave on good terms. Not sure what excuse I'd give for leaving as wouldn't want them to know I've won the lottery. I'd also move straight into a nice hotel and get the work doing on my house done while I'm not there before selling it and buying a nice detached house somewhere.

TheBoysAndTheBallet · 20/01/2025 20:58

I've got annual leave booked in six weeks so just to be nice, I'd keep working and then go on holiday. Forever.

Ohlawdnotagain · 20/01/2025 20:58

I'd quit my job with immediate effect.

Must remember to buy a ticket in the morning.

Temporaryname158 · 20/01/2025 21:00

I would book a couple of weeks holiday somewhere like the Maldives and ponder my win!

I wouldn’t hand my notice in straight away, I’d play it cool whilst making a plan and then leave

CouchSpud · 20/01/2025 21:00

Absolutely I’d quit!… I have loads of ideas on how I’d spend my time. I would never be bored!

FrodisCapering · 20/01/2025 21:01

@Tipperttruck you're an icon!

Oh thank you for the reminder! I work for myself so with £72m in the bank I would be lying on my own desert island beach with a cocktail in my hand faster than a rat up a drainpipe.

BackToRealitySigh · 20/01/2025 21:02

Yes I enjoy my job but I'd love to not have to do it!
I would work my notice period though.

UnimaginableWindBird · 20/01/2025 21:03

No. I'd reduce my hours to 3 days a week, but I like my work and my colleagues. If I wanted to spend a lot of time traveling, I might leave paid work, but i'd go back as a volunteer.

I do have my eye on a nice house, though. There was a lottery-win house I had my eye on last year, and I was disappointed when somebody bought it, but now the house next door to it has gone on sale.

Motomum23 · 20/01/2025 21:03

I like my job enough to work my notice period... I'd miss the kids I care for but changing nappies for less than minimum wage when you don't have to... its a no brainer!

FrodisCapering · 20/01/2025 21:03

Good luck to anyone who buys a ticket!
I've chosen a house. I'd love more space, huge garden for the little ones, pool and gym. Every school holiday would be an adventure! I'd just enjoy every day!

Ginkypig · 20/01/2025 21:05

No but I would give them a date over my notice period and say that would be my last day to give them plenty of time to find someone.

partly because the last couple of posts similar to mine have been really difficult to get a suitable candidate and when we did the dbs check was a nightmare and took ages!

I do this with houses too 😂.
I'm genuinely disappointed when the £5 million house I've had my eye on goes 😂😂

Instant ticket somewhere warm for a good long week or so. I think I would need longer to decide on what I would actually spend the money on though. For example, would DS remain at his current school or would we relocate? So many questions!

I'd have to buy a property though. No rent is just too heavenly to think about!

Comet33 · 20/01/2025 21:07

God, yes

This made me laugh out loud 🤣 I'm going to weave this in as a subplot to one of my lottery win daydreams! @tipperttruck

5128gap · 20/01/2025 21:11

No. I love everything about it and have some exciting projects coming up and lots left to achieve. I work for a charity so my lottery winning fantasy is donate a huge amount to it anonymously and carry on as normal.

Thewholeplaceglitters · 20/01/2025 21:12

I would feel too guilty to leave them in the lurch so I’d probably stay till the end of the year. It would definitely make some of the stressors easier to deal with mentally though!

Cerialkiller · 20/01/2025 21:13

No i wouldnt stop working. I freelance though and i really enjoy it and its super flexible and only part time. DH would walk out the moment the email came in and retire. We'd then have a a lovely life of leasure, buy a bigger house down the road (we really like our neighbours).

NoBodyIdRatherBe · 20/01/2025 21:14

Yes I’d quit but I’d do my job as a volunteer so I could just do the bits I wanted. I’d work 2 short days a week.

Dynamo101 · 20/01/2025 21:14

Oh definitely. I would quite my job, sell my house and buy somewhere lovely close to my mum for me and my cats. I would then set up my own business doing only the work that I wanted to, and I would pay somebody to be my accountant and to do all my admin so that I wouldn’t need to so any of the difficult boring stuff. And I would invest money so that my family and I would have an income for life.

And I would only tell immediate family what I’d won. Nobody else would know it was anything more than a few grand.

Mymanyellow · 20/01/2025 21:14

I’d be laying on a beach before anyone missed me. Delete the chat I’d never see or speak to any of them ever again.

takealettermsjones · 20/01/2025 21:15

I would quit my current job and set up the business I've been wanting to start for years. I'd get admin staff immediately though, so I wouldn't have to do it. (My lotteryless business plan involves me doing the admin for the first couple of years!)
