If you win the lottery tomorrow...

Would you quit work?
I've bought a ticket for the euro millions tomorrow. Yes, I know there's pretty much no chance of winning anything, but it's just a bit of fun.
If I were to win, I would work my notice, less annual leave, because I wouldn't want to dump anyone in it, but then I'd be gone.
I'm not bothered about "stuff" but I would love the security it would give me, dh and my children.

I’d quit my job.
Slap my neighbour and then pay her off.
I’d then run away on holiday with my child and partner and plan how to get all my family living in nice houses in one gated area without killing each other.

I’ve just played after reading your OP!

I’ve already retired, so quitting work not a consideration. I wouldn’t move, we neither want nor need a bigger house, but would thoroughly renovate our existing house, maybe go into the loft, and travel travel travel!

I'd go to NY for the week, stay in a luxury hotel, and have a week of extravagant spending.

brunettemic · 21/01/2025 14:19

I wouldn’t work my notice but I’d make myself available to support them with me leaving. An employer will get rid of you at the drop of a hat if it so wishes so in an example like I’d do the same. I like my job and the people but still.
Then I’d go and volunteer a day or two a week somewhere so I wasn’t fully tied to it but I’d definitely need something to do with my time. Maybe the RSPCA or the Dogs Trust.

I work freelance so I would immediately give that up. I'd get a cleaner to come twice a week and do all our ironing too. Go and see a really good dermatologist. Get regular massages and osteopathy. Obvs pay off mortgage and those of all our siblings too.

If I won massively eg 70 million I would swan into work, give some of my selected colleagues a hefty cheque on the basis that they walked out there and then. Then laugh, Machiavelli-like, at the chaos I had caused to the employers who have royally fucked my husband over.
and I would never darken their doors again.

i would maybe open a poncy cafe selling gorgeous cakes and fripperies, I might call it Hygge Tygge. I wouldn't do any of the hard work though. Just make nice cakes and swan around. I used to be a pastry chef and I'd like to just be able to make cake and not worry about earnings.

Ooo yes, I think about opening the kind of cafe my town doesn't have but really needs (ie I would like). Excellent homemade cakes, plenty of space for families (inc a play corner) and no laptops at weekends, or allowed on 2/4 person tables. I'd pay the rent and do it up, and get someone in to run it day to day.

Nice

So you can arrive and promptly vomit over everyone?

Leave work, start an education foundation and start handing out money to kids from low socioeconomic backgrounds for FE/uni scholarships.

Itsallgonesideways · 21/01/2025 21:18

I'd buy some proper luxurious, well fitted bras from Rigby and Peller.I like my job so would switch to term time only as I've said earlier upthread. Travel around the world during the holidays.

After proper consideration, I would provide funding for smaller charities in my areas as the big ones get enough.

I'd also open a charitable foundation & then turn the boarded up office block on my high street into a multipurpose community space. Was thinking of a library/bookshop, small independent cinema, co-work space & bistro cafe staffed by people with learning disabilities. Would also have a garden space with tables at the back plus a few rooms which can be hired for parties etc.

I'd also, fund extra curricular & enrichment activities in schools as they're the first to go when schools try to balance the books.

I'd also convert a few abandoned office blocks on my local high street into supported living flats for vulnerable people. My high street is slowly dying atm so some community initiatives to being it back to life is needed.

Absolutely! For many years when I played this game, I loved my job so much that I would have carried on doing a few hours a week. But AI has totally changed it and it bores me now.

readingmakesmehappy · 22/01/2025 18:48

So I won....£2.70!

twistingleaves · 22/01/2025 19:11

well done ! ! time to start planning for the future... perhaps a half down the pub!? 😂

bluebalou · 22/01/2025 19:33

I would quit immediately, not sure I'd have time to tell them either 🤣
