Have you ever gotten every job you applied for?

The job application process can be so unpredictable. A friend told me recently that she’s gotten every single job she’s applied for, which honestly blew my mind. Then I think about others who face endless rejections, no matter how qualified or prepared they are.

Have you ever gotten every job you applied for? Or has rejection been a bigger part of your journey? Do you think success comes down to luck, timing, skill - or something else entirely? I’d love to hear about your experiences and what you think makes the difference!

I've been offered every job I've ever interviewed for, but there have been PLENTY that I applied for and didn't get an interview.

I've got every job I've ever been interviewed for. But not every job I've applied for has offered me an interview.

Until quite recently that was DH - he was working in a VERY niche part of an already small industry though, there weren't many others trained in the specific thing he was. All of his jobs (bar the first one, where he worked his way up from a grad scheme he got accepted to on first try) he was headhunted for because there were so few people doing it and everyone knew everyone's experience, so by that point the interviews were really a formality. He's had quite the shock since he changed industry.

Just to even things out a bit OP I can safely say I have not got every job I’ve applied for. In fact the vast majority I never even hear from. Slightly different now I’m firmly in my career stage rather than my desperately trying to find any job that pays the rent stage but still nowhere near the success rate of PP.

Despite this thread it must be more common not to get every job you’ve applied for. I mean for every person on the thread saying they got the job, there must be far more who applied to that same job and didn’t! Unless PPs were the only candidates which I doubt.

Yeah, so far gotten them all. Bigly time.

LemonLymanDotCom · 21/01/2025 11:31

Yep, but over a 24 year career I've only had 6 jobs. Plus 2 of those I was invited to apply for, so was pretty much a shoo-in. I'm not including the job I applied for, but withdrew my application for after the interview because I didn't fancy the job after I found out more about it.

ItGhoul · 21/01/2025 13:25

I've never failed to get an interview, but I don't always get the job after the interview stage.

DustyMaiden · 04/07/2025 21:32

When I was starting out applied for 100 jobs before getting one. Later got all I applied for. Got headhunted. No substitute for a proven track record.

Nearly all. I apply for jobs I know I'll get, I interview well. I get offered nearly all, not all, but most. I do accounts, am good at what I do and that's why I get offered most.

I've met plenty like me, and middlers, and many who have to apply for 100's, 300+, 600+, and only then eventually find a job in the end. You must know this. Why on earth does it surprise you?

Do you never want to push yourself put of your comfort zone and apply for a job that you may not know you'll get as there's some development room?

Disturbia81 · 07/07/2025 20:12

Yes but they’re not well paid jobs

LaudCodec · 07/07/2025 20:15

Until recently, I’d got every job I applied for, but I’ve had fewer than 10 jobs in over 30 years of working life, including bar jobs as a student.

A couple of years ago I was rejected for a job on the third interview. I then went on to get my current job.

FortheloveofCheesus · 13/08/2025 18:01

Ive been headhunted for last two roles.

I then applied for my bosses job even though i knew they would not give it to me as they wanted some specific experience I didnt have. I didn't get it but got some really valuable feedback
