So @Nonstoprain 4hrs later can you let us know your child’s age

either they are

Genius if 2/3

normal /average 4/5

slightly behind 5/6

very behind or learning issues if 7+

SnidelyWhiplash · 20/01/2025 19:31

Around 4? That’s just how ours used to write the year before they started reception.

Tootiredmummyof3 · 20/01/2025 19:36

I'm really surprised so many people are saying reception. I would have thought an older Y1: or possibly even a young Y2.
While it's a bit messy the spelling and sentence structure are too advanced for reception and I don't know any nursery children who can write anything like that well.

bakewellbride · 20/01/2025 19:38

I've seen kids try to write this sentence but write 'I'm going to the bitch' instead Grin

SuffolkUnicorn · 20/01/2025 19:41

My kids better than your kid
mine wrote like that at 6 months old and gave stick people actual hair styles

seriously what is wrong with some of you

SuffolkUnicorn · 20/01/2025 19:41

Does it really matter stop comparing 🙄

Happyhippos123 · 20/01/2025 19:41

How old is the child who wrote it?

Notaflippinclue · 20/01/2025 19:42

6 months

Moveoverdarlin · 20/01/2025 19:46

Reception Age 5.

PrincessOfPreschool · 20/01/2025 19:46

Notaflippinclue · 20/01/2025 19:42

6 months

😂 PERFECT

Dragonsandcats · 20/01/2025 19:47

I’d say 5 ish, reception/y1

hopsalong · 20/01/2025 19:47

Year 1 or 2?!
I would think nursery. The children in my sons' inner London primary could write much better than this in reception.

Fuzzypinetree · 20/01/2025 19:48

All depends, doesn't it? Our school wouldn't have children below Year 4 use those lines. Letter formation, child not writing in lines and letter size would put it at Reception level for ours. Does the child have issues with fine motor skills?

CaptainMyCaptain · 20/01/2025 19:53

Morello339 · 20/01/2025 15:40

I'd say reception. There is some sound knowledge, but using capitals and lower case incorrectly. Also, letter size and formation seems reception level too.

I agree with this. It is odd to mix in so many capitals though and letter formation needs a lot of work.

Year 1 (left handed)

Why left handed?

valentinka31 · 20/01/2025 20:00

reception to Year 1, aged generally around 5

valentinka31 · 20/01/2025 20:00

So please tell us the answer

DonningMyHardHat · 20/01/2025 20:07

I would say my very able yr 1/6year old is only one step above this handwriting-wise, and it took him to the end of reception to stop doing random capitals everywhere. His sentence structure was ahead of this at the beginning of reception though. He’s ASD/ADHD so presentation isn’t really his thing but he finds phonics and structuring writing comes naturally.
Reception-Yr 1 seems about right to me.

1AngelicFruitCake · 20/01/2025 20:09

Reception
Great they can think of a sentence and write it down, remembering finger spaces and it makes sense.

They are getting mixed up between lowercase and uppercase. They need support with some of the letters formed.

If reception and independent that's great they just need to work on their formation .

1AngelicFruitCake · 20/01/2025 20:14

@RosePosse I'm aghast at nursery teaching digraphs! I would like to think nursery at this stage are embedding phase 1 phonics and possibly looking at phase 2 and making cvc words using first sounds (satpin).

Cupofteaandbiscuits · 20/01/2025 20:15

I’m a teacher and would say Reception/year 1

MarigoldSpider · 20/01/2025 20:15

I’m just here for the big reveal

FrodisCapering · 20/01/2025 20:17

Sherrystrull · 20/01/2025 19:22

This is not middle of the road year 1. This is full sentences with good capital letters and full stops. This is expected for the end of y1.

Very much middle of the road at his school.
Some of his classmates are way ahead on both reading and writing.

I’m a teacher too, I’ve not met even a very able nursery child to know the ea digraph and use it correctly in beach, even a ch is more of a solid reception child than nursery
