I'm so annoyed with myself for drinking so much (socially and more or less within normal UK limits but still far too much)

it made me bloated and fat. I used to deny this could possibly be the case and went to every exercise class going plus starved myself. It was the booze.

specifically and most irritating - it made my arms fat. I considered going to Brazil for expensive and risky arm surgery ffs. My arms are thin now and I'm in my 40s

i must have spent a bloody fortune. Also did many risky and undignified things in my 20s and lost many many items in taxis (more expense incurred)

maybe it's part of growing up but wish I'd limited it to 2 years instead of best part of 20!

what did you do that you wish you'd cottoned on to a bit blinking sooner?!

That daily exercise is essential not a superfluous hobby.

Never sacrifice the number of DCs you have for the sake of a career.

You'll always have your DCs.

Careers can melt in a moment.

I really needed to hear something like this as in a worrying situation at present so thank you! X

It took me an insane amount of my life to learn how to tell the time. Even now I get it wrong sometimes. I'm forever turning up an hour early.
Plus I can spell a word perfectly for years but then completely forget how to spell it.

That's dyslexia normally ☺️ especially with the spellings but also the telling the time. Can also be ADHD. If you ever struggle with pronunciation, reading, maths, coordination, money etc and it bothers you consider getting tested might make it easier for you to understand yourself.

Don’t look back in regret OP , sure there’s no point !
You were young 😊….

I Always , ALWAYS, went for the wrong guys & never treated the way you should be , I’ve never experienced a what you would call a good relationship with a kind , calm man , only always the wankers !!!!
Now , I’m 49 & single and know exactly what kind of a man I would like to meet & the dicks of this world won’t even get a look in !!!!;( I would like to meet someone) 🤷🏻‍♀️…
I am very happy with my kids though so it’s not all doom and gloom ☺️

@Slowontheup ehat a great thread. I was exactly the same about drinking. I look back it’s just one big cringe-fest. It took me a loooong time to figure it all out. I think it’s partly cultural. All my great (and very wonderful) mates drink to excess and still do. We live in a town and the teen drinking culture, egged on by middle-class parents, horrifies me. It’s not healthy or cool.

GrumpyMuleFan · 23/01/2025 10:29

PS - I still love to drink too, but drink less

I only found out recently that Jeremy Vine and Alexander Armstrong are two different people.

Yeah, Jeremy Vine is the scummy one.

I agree. I’ve been around a long time, and I genuinely believe the saying that if you sit long enough beside the river, the bodies of your enemies will float past.

Oh I love this expression! I've not heard it before.

That a car has to be unlocked in order to be able to get petrol cap off, I was so used to driving old bangers that when I got a newer car I stood at the petrol pump trying to wrestle the cap off, felt a right numpty when I found out.

That if you don't strengthen your core when you are younger you will likely end up with back issues

And also doing squats uses the muscles you need to get out of your chair in old age and means you can get off the toilet unaided.

Following with interest.

I didn't know I was gay until I was 48.

Missj25 · 24/01/2025 19:58

😂😂
You cannot just state “ you did not know you were gay , until you were 48 “ !!!!! And leave it at that 😂
So please , Do tell !!! 😊

I was badly bullied during secondary school, ages 12 - 16. The feelings of inadequacy have never left me despite having friends, a lovely home life and subsequent happy marriage. My confidence and self-esteem have always suffered . I still find it very difficult to accept compliments. I'm always trying to be a people-pleaser. It's held me back on so many ways.
I wish I'd been able to overcome it. At least I recognise now that it's the root cause of many of my personal challenges.
Please - always call out the bullies. The damage they wreak can be lifelong.

If it hadn't been you it would have been someone else . The problem is with them not you . This piece of advice was a game changer in my thinking for me . For years I felt there was something wrong with me . No it was them .

There really isn't much to tell that's particularly interesting to anyone other than me. It's more common than you'd think, late in life lesbians are a definite thing.

I mean, the story is just... I assumed I was straight. I had relationships with me which were never very satisfying. Then in 2020 I had a moment of clarity and realised why (plus my tiktok algorithm suddenly became 90% lesbian which was interesting.)

Iloveyoubut · 26/01/2025 15:13

That you can’t love the hell out of someone.

Missj25 · 26/01/2025 18:21

Cool 👌
Are you in a relationship now ?
