To ask if you have a tea set?

Do you have a teaset that you use daily?

And by that I mean the whole works - teapot, teacups with saucers, sugar pot, milk jug.

I use mine every day and guests always seem surprised when I make tea on a tray and bring it in in the pot.

I know it's a bit unusual these days but surely not that unusual?

I don’t but I’ve been considering getting one. My mum and grandma both had tea sets and I loved them when I was younger.

Not sure I’d have anywhere to put it or in fact use it but it’s nostalgic for me it think.

DramaAlpaca · 19/01/2025 18:49

I have two, but I don't use them daily. We prefer mugs, but sometimes we'll have a tray with the teapot, milk jug etc, if we're feeling a bit posh.

One of my sets is a beautiful bone china one DH and I got as a wedding present 35 years ago. It makes an appearance occasionally at Christmas. It's pretty, but the teacups are tiny and can't go in the dishwasher so not terribly practical.

The other is a set my DF brought home from a trip to Japan before he married my DM, so that's at least 65 years old. It's still in its original box and far too precious to use.

Oreosareawful · 19/01/2025 18:50

Gosh no.

Createausername1970 · 19/01/2025 18:53

I did have.

I liked the idea of it, but not the reality.

When we moved a few years ago it went to a charity shop.

I sometimes think I should have kept it, but overall I don't miss it.

IamSmarticus · 19/01/2025 18:56

I don't have one and wouldn't use one if I did - it would just take up space in a cupboard and gather dust.

Crazycatlady79 · 19/01/2025 18:57

Nah, I swig builders' tea straight out of £3 mugs from Sainsbury's.

pambeesleyhalpert · 19/01/2025 18:57

I got a le cruest tea pot and milk jug for Xmas. Love them!

Porridgeislife · 19/01/2025 18:58

I like the idea of it but I’m the only person in my house who drinks tea, and I prefer teabags. So we don’t.

I have a relative who is very wedded to milk jug, teapot, cosy, cup and saucer for all tea drinking but she’s approaching 75.

Megapint · 19/01/2025 18:58

I do, and I use it every day. It sat on a shelf for a few years. As I've got older, I've started using all my beautiful things daily. I also have a coffee pot and full set.

Middlemarch123 · 19/01/2025 19:01

I’ve Got an Alice In Wonderland one, I love it. Was very expensive so I added to it as and when I could afford to. Family would buy me a bit of it for Xmas and birthdays too.

Amba1998 · 19/01/2025 19:02

I have one. It comes out when I put on a birthday or Mother’s Day afternoon tea type event. Haven’t had it out in a few years!

TheBookShelf · 19/01/2025 19:03

I have a vintage (1930s) tea set which I enjoy using occasionally.

SockQueen · 19/01/2025 19:04

I don't. My parents do, and have one inherited from my grandparents. Maybe I should invest and feel like a proper grown up!

InJadeHedgehog · 19/01/2025 19:04

I have one.
It comes out when someone dies.
My adult children affectionately call it ‘the death cups’ I couldn’t be bothered using a pot on a daily basis and like a big mug of tea.

NImumconfused · 19/01/2025 19:06

I have a Denby one that was a wedding present and a bone china one my granny left me, but neither of the really gets used unfortunately, I really should.

UndermyShoeJoe · 19/01/2025 19:06

I don’t drink tea so no.

bifurCAT · 19/01/2025 19:07

I miss the (old) Old Country Rose, Lady Carlysle, Royal Ascot... it's all mugs these days, and you only find these as mismatched sets in small afternoon tea places.

Catza · 19/01/2025 20:01

I have my tea black and I don't take sugar so there won't be much point in one. I have one of those glass tea brewers from IKEA which I use as I prefer loose leaf but a teacup is too small for me. I love the idea but it's not particularly practical for daily use.

Allthenameshavegone1972 · 19/01/2025 20:39

I have a full set from when we married in the 1980's. Sugar bowl is obsolete. Plus a vintage set from my gran in a display cupboard. I think the tea does taste nicer from the vintage set, but a few sips & it's gone, so we big mugs instead

mathanxiety · 19/01/2025 20:41

Yes, I have cups, saucers, and mugs all in the same pattern, with a little milk jug and sugar pot. Dcat managed to break the teapot, but I have another that goes with the cups and mugs. I use the teapot every day myself.

AllProperTeaIsTheft · 19/01/2025 20:42

Yes. I have a Country Traditionals teapot, 4 cups and saucers and a milk jug. I use them maybe once every couple of weeks. I use the teapot more often though.

LadyChilli · 19/01/2025 20:44

I don't have a matching teapot but have a gorgeous set of china cups, saucers, milk jug and sugar dish that I bought in a charity shop. I have various other cups and saucers and teapots, milk jugs etc. I love bringing a tray with everything to the sofa or bed on a weekend morning, drinking multiple cups of tea without having to get up. And tea tastes better to me from china.

Fridgemanageress · 19/01/2025 21:09

We have a box standard dark brown teapot which holds about 2.5mugs and I haven’t a clue where it came from. I bought in the charity shop a six cup teapot which does four mugs, it looks like a spelter but it’s not, but it pours well. I have a tiny three cup spelter which was given to me years ago. We have an infuser (mint) pot which holds 3 cups too.

My mother in law brings her own tea leaves, and red milk 🤮, and dependant on how many tea drinkers there are, she uses which ever pot.

i have a few milk jugs varying in size, colours and patterns, and one beautiful sugar bowl with lid and the spoon came from whiskas!

None of it matches, but it’s all loved and used fairly frequently.

Talipesmum · 19/01/2025 21:14

I’ve got a Calamityware teapot, milk jug and sugar bowl (as well as a set of small plates) but no teacups and saucers - I wouldn’t use them. I have lots of lovely mugs of a variety of sizes and use those for tea - mostly via teabag-in-mug brewed tea, but if there’s 3 of more people having tea I’ll probably use the teapot. We’re using it more at the moment because we were given some nice leaf tea.

Powderblue1 · 19/01/2025 21:16

Yes I have but don't use daily. We tend to use it on the weekends when we all sit and have breakfast together.

Normally it's just me at home or we have a quick small decaf brew before bed so no need for a large pot.
