All inclusive hotel in Spain.

Fancy dress competitions for kids and kids club for general ents etc discos

Some of the male hotel guests putting on drag acts as evening entertainment

Two pools - one indoor / one outdoor

Sharing a dinner table with another guest couple at the hotel

Space invader machines /Pac Man etc

Pool table

VERY predominantly British guests

Hotel is right next to a beach

Plenty of cafes and bowling alleys near by for entertainment

Nice ‘bar’ area where you can also get drinks like milk shakes etc

Courier service so you have the option to go on day trips etc

Hotel guests in general are a bit ‘Phoenix Nights’ iyswim

So, what’s the verdict ?? Y Viva Espana?

@Comedycook I'm not suggesting all inclusive hotels are like prisons at all, but I really don't like big resort hotels with international style buffets and I like eating at different local restaurants. I don't only want solitude or peace and quiet in holiday - I love exploring historical sites and buildings, but if I'm relaxing in a hotel or on a beach, I like as near to complete peace and quiet as possible. I go on holiday to spend time with my family and meet local people where I'm staying, not other British people.

By the way there’s another important omission I’ve made -

now I remember-

one of the video games gave us free goes if we gave the machine a tap! We fiddled it ! But that’s what being 11/12 is about hey ?

Oh, the thrill of a free game😊

So what do all the holiday snobs want to do on a holiday?

Nothing snobbish about wanting to do exactly what you want on holiday, surely. In my case, my last holiday was a blissful winter solo week in Madrid where I spent all day every day in art galleries.

FancyBiscuitsLevel · 18/01/2025 22:10

Comedycook · 18/01/2025 21:55

I get the feeling that when posters say they don't like the idea of holidaying with other Brits, what they really mean is working class people.

I do think you might be right!

@CryJustALittleBit what you are describing is a very working class holiday. It might not have been so very clearly defined as such 40 years ago when there weren’t as many package holiday options, but the “now” opinions are going to be effected by an assumption of who else would be on that holiday.

Whatabouthow · 18/01/2025 18:30

Pre kids, absolutely not. With two toddlers, a short flight, entertainment and not cooking sounds like bliss.

I agree!

Brinkley22 · 18/01/2025 22:12

The pools sound great. I hate the idea of sharing a table with another couple, ha ha! I have moments when I love socialising, but the idea of having to make conversation with a random couple whilst watching some cringey entertainment does not rock my world

Unexpectedlysinglemum · 18/01/2025 22:14

It's not at all middle class. But if you're not a snob and you like to party with your kids then it sounds great!

Plastictrees · 18/01/2025 22:15

CryJustALittleBit · 18/01/2025 22:03

Yes that’s fine … I’m interested in the ‘now’ responses

Why?

Moonshower · 18/01/2025 22:16

5 star hotel yes….butlins abroad at 3/4 stars no thank you

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 18/01/2025 22:18

Not for me

CryJustALittleBit · 18/01/2025 22:18

Plastictrees · 18/01/2025 22:15

Why?

Because I want to see if this would appeal to other people in the way it has to me

Scottishskifun · 18/01/2025 22:18

It wouldn't be a holiday I would choose but everyone is different.

We have done AI last few years (was the polar opposite of what DH and I would have done pre kids) as its easier with 2 young children who just want to be in a pool for 10 hours of the day but have found we need smaller and quieter hotels. DS1 absolutely loves all AI aspects though especially the very cheesy kids mini disco!

LuluBlakey1 · 18/01/2025 22:20

I'd hate all of it.

Comedycook · 18/01/2025 22:20

valentinka31 · 18/01/2025 22:03

if I was a middle-class Mumsnetter then I'd probably prefer a villa in Corfu, perhaps with another known family in a neighbouring villa. ..

Yes I was surprised at how middle class people seem to love villas so much.. sounds dull to me.

All of it?

Swimming pool?
A beach?
In the sun?

You hate all that?

But it appealed to you 50 years ago when you were a small child. This whole thread is weird.

This has given me an idea for a novel

‘The Vanilla Villas’

But you were a child in the 80’s when you went, which you left out of your OP.

Just seems a bit goady to me. You obviously know the snobs will come out in full force - this is MN.

Yes in the context it was described- Brits hotel in Spain in a resort that sounds like Blackpool. And I'm not a sun -lover.

Comedycook · 18/01/2025 21:42

So what do all the holiday snobs want to do on a holiday?

I prefer self-catering or camping. Definitely no provided entertainments. I want to cook some evenings and otherwise eat local food in restaurants, explore the local area and go to the beach if we're staying by the coast. Does that sound 'snobby' to you? Just sounds like a normal kind of holiday to me.

TwistedWonder · 18/01/2025 22:27

Was AI a thing in the 80’s? Back when I used to go with my parents, most hotels in Spain were half board (breakfast and dinner)

Comedycook · 18/01/2025 22:20

Why would it be dull? It's just (nice) accommodation. You don't stay in the house 24/7.

It's different but I don't see why it's seen as superior to the holiday the op is describing.

We've done ai...we can explore and visit the beach. The entertainment isn't compulsory...some nights we'd watch it, some nights we'd go for a walk, sit in a bar, play cards, whatever.

Self catering is never a holiday imo. I spend my whole sodding life cooking, I have zero desire to be in a kitchen on holiday
