To cancel this date?

Started chatting to a guy on tinder a few days ago, we swapped numbers and he asked me out on a date, which we arranged for tomorrow.

I'm getting a bit put off by some of his messages though, like
"I want to cuddle you"
"I don't want anyone else finding out how pretty you are, they might steal you"

One of the things that puts me off men is when they are too forward early on, gives me the major ick. And now I want to cancel the date. 🙈

Am I just being silly? Or should I give him a chance? Is it rude to cancel?

And of course it’s not rude to cancel

You find his comments off putting and that’s perfectly fine

don’t worry about upsetting a man’s ego they soon get over it

BringMeTea · 18/01/2025 11:05

He sounds like a moron. Seriously don't waste your time.

Iknjtjumpers · 18/01/2025 11:15

It’s not rude at all, you owe him nothing whatsoever. It’s best to nip this one in the bud,

Startinganew32 · 18/01/2025 11:16

Gross, he’s never even met you. Why are some people like this?

RabbitsRock · 18/01/2025 11:17

Absolutely cancel OP

Bumcake · 18/01/2025 11:17

If you’ve gone off the idea you are perfectly free to cancel. Why waste any of the weekend on a man who’s making you cringe? Bin him off.

JoandArcFeminist · 18/01/2025 11:17

Trust your gut - you're not being silly at all, and you owe anyone 'chances'. You feel uneasy? Cancel that date!

NigelHarmansNewWife · 18/01/2025 11:18

My skin is crawling and it's not a message I've received! Cancel, block and move on.

heyhopotato · 18/01/2025 11:40

That second one in particular is creepy af, like he has some rescue fantasy or something.

IsThePopeCatholic · 18/01/2025 11:42

He sounds like a fool. Ditch him.

whaddayawannado · 18/01/2025 11:54

"I don't want anyone else finding out how pretty you are, they might steal you"

This is wrapped up in one monster giant red flag. He appears to already think you have become his property.

The hills are that way >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

Lurkingandlearning · 18/01/2025 12:10

I was just about to post similar to @whaddayawannado Steal you like a car or a phone??? It’s sort of dehumanising too

cadburyegg · 18/01/2025 12:18

Wow, a unanimous response.

Some of you have put into words exactly how I feel - to follow my instincts and also not to waste any of my weekend on him. It occurred to me I'd rather blitz my house this weekend than meet up with him 🙈Historically I'm not good at noticing red flags and weird behaviour but I'm getting better.

I messaged him "hi I've been thinking, I don't feel we're a good match so it's best to cancel our plans tomorrow. All the best". I checked just now if he's read it and it looks like he's blocked me already as his profile picture has disappeared. Fair enough I guess!

Thank you all 🙂

Well done. I'll guess your gut feeling was spot on then.

Happyhettie · 18/01/2025 12:36

Well done! 👏 Listening to your gut instinct isn’t always easy as we’re taught to “be nice” and give people a chance.
Sounds like you’ve missed a whole heap of odd.

SnowflakeSmasher86 · 18/01/2025 12:45

Yep a man who doesn’t take rejection well. Bullet dodged. Would have been no trouble to say “ok, no worries, all the best” but he couldn’t muster that. Twat.

OverthinkingOlive · 18/01/2025 14:31

What a twat. Blocking someone who isn't hassling you is so pathetic.

bigkahunaburger · 18/01/2025 17:24

I had this but worse and my instinct was to cancel. I didn't and he was really forward and handsy on the date. Gave me the total ick.

Now I am ruthless. First sign of being pushy I shut it down.

I'd give him a swerve cos he will be worse irl.

Eldermillenialyogi · 18/01/2025 17:25

It's a no from me

Youngheartsalittletogetherness · 18/01/2025 17:27

Sounds like a teenager and if it's full on in msgs what's he going to be like irl.

cadburyegg · 19/01/2025 12:52

I told my mum about the whole saga and she said she feels sorry for him 🤣🤣🤣 and I wonder why I have trouble asserting boundaries with men...
