To not understand why quad bikes, motor bikes and jet skis are allowed to damage the environment

Watching the Sandi Tosvig woodland show and from my own experience as a walker and user of beaches I’m bemused as to why usage of these vehicles are allowed when they clearly cause huge damage and environmental impact.

Curtailing use in fragile areas wouldn’t impact right to roam so why is nothing done about them?

Who is going to police vast stretches of forests for unlicensed use? Pragmatically, this is a non starter, surely.

I've always thought some of these green initiatives were sexist. Baby wipes an awful texture, reusable nappies, period cups, paper straws that disintegrate when you're driving your kid somewhere causing a meltdown

But these vehicles are still allowed to pollute the planet etc

Anyway, yanbu but would be hard to police as pp said

Because men like them. Next question.

I used to work for an environmental charity that looked after areas of parks, beaches, woodland walks, etc.

These types of vehicles weren't allowed, but unfortunately, the people that use them don't generally take notice of the signs that tell them that.

Plus as pp have said policing large areas like this isn't feasible, and could sometimes be dangerous if you can manage to stop and speak to the vehicle user.

You'll find that almost all errosion of tracks and paths is caused by walkers, who in my opinion, as a group, are incredibly selfish, they want the countryside entirely for themselves

The footpaths you love the walk on are disappearing fast before our eyes due to erosion from increased footfall and more extreme weather conditions ref BMC 2022.

The reality is that when no one gave a shit about motorbikes etc riding off road & when few went "rambling" we had far more diversity of wildlife.

Address the real causes, farming practices, river pollution, loss of habitate, more people accessing wild areas... around me now, every bit of land available is turned into something, people go everywhere, wild life hasn't a chance.
