Time spent in the hairdresser

Yesterday I went to the hairdresser to have a root touch up, wash and blow dry.
Due to my hairdresser staggering her appointment (which I do understand, she has to make money), I was in the salon for 2 hours and 45 minutes. I had the dye on for an hour 45 in total.
Is this an unreasonable amount of time in total? It meant that my whole day was thrown off and I missed another appointment because I only expected to be in there 1.5 hours max - is this normal?
I don’t have long or thick hair - shoulder length, normal texture ect.

Normal time. 45 min to consult, gown, mix the colour and apply. 45 min to process. 15 min to wash and 45 min for cut and blowdry. These are industry-standard times.

Sounds normal to me.
I ha e been in longer when my hairdresser has done me a favour and squeezed me in but she has let me know that there are other clients and she is working around them, which is fair.

That’s good to know! I will arrange my day better next time!

I'd allow at least 2 hours just for colour and blow dry, let alone a cut too.

Would you like her to have just slapped it on?

ItGhoul · 16/01/2025 12:25

Assuming that you also had it cut, that doesn't sound hugely excessive. If you didn't have it cut and just had it coloured and blow-dried, it's a long time.

RuthW · 16/01/2025 12:28

1.5 hrs! I would expect that for a cut and style on long hair and I'm an ex hairdresser. You were very optimistic

7ft1garysson · 16/01/2025 12:31

That sounds normal to me. I’d always plan 3 hours (including travelling time)

Careerburnout · 16/01/2025 13:03

I’m not complaining! It’s my third time having it done so I just wasn’t sure of time. The last 2 times I had half a head of highlights with root colour inbetween and it took about 2 hours 10, so I was just trying to gauge whether 2 hours 45 was closer to what I should be expecting.

I am having my hair cut and coloured on Saturday, I asked how long it would probably take and was told around 3 hours, I have short hair.

KimberleyClark · 16/01/2025 13:37

Yes that’s normal for cut, colour and blow dry.

fartfacenotfatface · 16/01/2025 13:37

For that kind of appointment I'm normally in for around 2 hrs.
My hairdresser sees another client whilst my dye is doing its thing and the assistant washes it but that's all.
