To wonder what could Starmer do, to turn things around?

He was elected on fewer votes than Corbyn with very lukewarm support, the Tories lost that election, Labour did not sweep in on a tide of public approval, they just benefitted from peoples anger at the Conservatives. Since then, Starmers approval rating has tanked. He seems to have gone from one ill judged move to the next and seems totally tone deaf in speeches. Can he turn it around? What would he need to do?

Resign and call an election. Labour are not fit for government.

An election?!
We've only just had one!
It doesn't work like that. Government's last for 4 years.
If he did resign, someone else Labour would take his place.

There you go it’s not MSM as claimed, people really are annoyed and he’s lost support

Yeah, some people are pissed off. It is normal. What the MSM is doing is blowing something fairly normal up into a "crisis".

But we are never going to agree. You are hoping for the UK to crash and burn so you can be proved right. I am not.

You’re going by comments? Silly seems apt for that tbf

A vote counts, no one counts comments (except those searching comfort on the one point I guess)

Guess which way those comments will translate into votes. Here’s a hint, they won’t be going to Reform.

Angela Rayner could replace him. That would make some heads explode on MN.

Don’t be silly, that’s not even close but typical sort of response from some.

I like it here, if it crashes and burns then I hope everyone is as similarly angry at Labour as I will be.

I mean maybe not you but I think you’ll be a minority.

No one has voted.

There have been a few polls. We are more than four years away from voting. If the polls are like this at the start of 2029, then I'll worry.

Farage and his merry band of bigots and woman beaters of course!

Worry when you want. Comments aren’t a good gauge. Your link was better for the pp as it showed a closing gap.

And what about in 20 years’ time, when we have millions more retirees , and thanks to the current low birth rate, not nearly enough young workers to replace them?

If our young people had a chance of getting a house before their mid thirties, that didn't cripple them financially, maybe they would have more children.

If the UK crashes and burns I can assure you nobody will be angrier than me, having longed for a non Tory government for so long. You do seem to be slavering at the prospect though.

He doesn't seem to be a captain in charge of his ship... it's as though Rachel has brought in some changes that effect employers, but Rachel didn't speak to Angela.
Then he seems to have a go at the pensioners.
Wes through cash at doctors and people thought that the systematic issues in the NHS would be sorted.
And the "14 years" rhetoric, well why was that ? Because Labour couldn't pull together a credible opposition.

You don’t need to own a house to have children. I’d been a parent for 16 years when I first owned a house back in the early 90s in my late 30s.

I think if people exercised a little critical thinking they would realise it takes more than 6 months to complete turn things around.

And people who call that excuse making really take the biscuit with disingenuousness.

You are, deliberately or otherwise, avoiding the point. No one who did think expected a turn around in 6 months. But they also didn’t expect deliberate actions to make things worse. To obfuscate that point is tantamount to gaslighting, or itself a sign of complete inability to think critically…

Unlike you, I don't have the privilege of being able to leave the UK, so of course I would be unhappy.

Motomum23 · 16/01/2025 13:42

He could resign. No one in this country wants this government - those who did vote Labour didn't expect this shitshow.

Why an odd statement.

I don't know anyone - and I know a lot of people - who didn't think they deserve time to sort out the mess they inherited

I never understand posters arrogant enough to think they speak for everyone contrary to what the Daily Mail tells them

As Blossom says, why predict it with such glee and go on about how happy you are that you and your family can go elsewhere if needed?

BIossomtoes · 17/01/2025 10:00

Utter nonsense.

All my posts talk about economics. If people can counter with economic literacy do so. I’m ready to hear a good argument on that basis rather than this.

As for crash and burn if Labour do that then people really did get it wrong didn’t they,

If Labour voters feel it’s a possibility get on to Starmer. Nothing to do with me.

But you don’t seem happy here. Like another poster said you’re slavering for failure which to me is sad. Any normal Brit would want their government to improve things and give them time to do it. People moaned about the Conservatives because they were complacent and dishonest and incompetent not because of some random illogical dislike.

Exactly. We all knew it was going to be tough for a good few years. This narrative that Labour voters thought everything would be sorted in a few months is bollocks, quite frankly.

wholettheturnipsburn · 17/01/2025 09:48

I asked the same question and funnily enough, no one wanted to say.

I suspect that some of them do secretly want Farage as PM.

It must have impacted you to bring this up.

I don’t know what will happen for sure you sound more worried. If it goes wrong I’m sure it can be corrected

The best thing that Starmer could do is to fire whoever is in charge of their PR and communications. They really need a non war mongering version of Alistair Campbell. They have actually done some good things since taking office, but they have no ability to control the narrative.
