Do I phone my old benefits to tell them I've applied for universal credit?

I applied on December 31st but my identity wasn't proven until this Monday.

I've received payments from old benefits this week when i shouldn't have as they stopped this week before they were paid

Was I supposed to phone the other benefits to tell them? I never was told to at my appointment or when applying. Maybe I've missed it?

Will I be in trouble? I've only been overpaid 3 payments from one benefit and one from another.

I think you should call, to make sure everything is going as it needs to be

No, you don't have to.. It should all be automatic (even before confirming identity, stop notices go out to the older benefits the moment you submit your claim) and it's not your responsibility to call. But you can if you want, if you think theres been a mistake.

But you won't be in trouble as it wasn't something you were expected to do. You may have to pay money back if there was a mistake and over payments, but you didn't do anything wrong.

Knowing which benefits they are would help, as they all behave differently when you claim UC.

Tax credits should have stopped immediately, but you may get more payments if they find you've been underpaid when they finalise your Award (Which they automatically do when you claim UC).

HB, IS, income related ESA and income related JSA will give 2 weeks of bonus payments after you claim UC before stopping. These payments shouldn't come off your UC but sometimes will if there's a mistake, so watch that.

Contribution based ESA (including as part of an income related award) will continue as New Style ESA and come off your UC payment £1 for £1.
