Popping chick peas?

Ineedsleepnotsugar · 15/01/2025 21:44

Trying to make crispy chick peas in air fryer.
Soaked overnight.
Air dried for an hour.
Air fryer 180 floor 15 mins
But are popping and ruining the fryer.
What's gone wrong?

I’ve never had this, I pressure cook mine then rub them dry before air frying. I wonder if they need rubbing dry?

I used tinned, drained them, patted dry, added flavourings, bunged in air fryer, shook occasionally. That's it

Hmmm...

Do you need to soak if using pressure cooker?

You need to cook them. They are lovely.

So cook in pressure cooker, no need to soak. About 40mins I think. Then dry them off, then air fry with a spray of oil and seasoning

I think you're air frying them too long. Mine cook in about 8 mins at 180°C

You can do the pressure cooking instead of soaking. Set the cooker to 45-50 mins according to taste

I often use tinned, but actually think I prefer them when I bother pressure cooking thr dried chick peas

Many thanks.

After 10 mins ( I stopped as popping was concerning) they are still not crispy

Are you using uncooked? Soaking isn't enough. You'll have to boil them first. You can skip the soak if you have a pressure cooker, or just used tinned and skip everything except draining and drying thoroughly.

You need to cook them in water before air frying.

If soaked overnight chick peas cook in water in 15 minutes in my instant pot.

I was rather hoping that chick peas contain some sort of natural high with that title!
I was all for popping a pulse to feel better!

I never spotted this, you’re right. That will be it
