Toxic family

I’ve recently stepped back from a toxic family situation as it was affecting my mental health and had to see GP for anti depressants. However, I will probably have to get involved again as elderly parents may need my care soon. This fills me with dread (I feel guilty saying it). Nasty things have been said and done throughout the family and I just want to walk away.

I think you can walk away if you need to

You have no obligation to care for toxic elderly parents am I right in thinking it's your parents that have been toxic?
There's nothing wrong with walking away and protecting your MH.

Parents and siblings.

You don't have to get involved in their care. If you're no contact with them and siblings, they will have to get on with it. If siblings don't care for them, social services will do an assessment and arrange care.
