He had no trousers on?

I saw this photo in the guardian today and had to give a double take because I initially thought the man on the right had no trousers on! I was a bit shocked until I realised he did! they r just beige!

Then I saw there was a woman to the right who actually doesn't have any trousers on and I had no reaction.

Then I wondered - what the hell? Why is my reaction so different to a partially naked man as it is to a partially naked women?

Of course, she does have some kind of skirt or shorts or something I'm sure! But I know if the man had dressed like this I'd have felt really shocked, whereas I don't feel anything much towards seeing a woman dressed like this.

Why do some women where clothes which reveal their legs and men don't? What's this about?

Also - why do some women dress 'sexy' in the workplace but men don't?

No AIBU really, just was surprised at my horrified reaction to a man with no trousers on, when I didn't bat an eyelid for the woman.

What's going on!? Any thoughts!

But in this photo I am more distracted by the massive tit in the foreground.

😂😂

Agapornis · 15/01/2025 10:58

The most terrifying thing in that photo is the brainwashed young people.

Didn't we all make questionable workplace fashion choices in our early 20s?

AwaitingFreedom · 15/01/2025 11:02

Men with no trousers = flashers or sexual predator = be on high alert.
Women with no trousers = normal Friday/Saturday night = ignore.

It's all down to self preservation.

Snowmanscarf · 15/01/2025 11:02

I think the Mann stands out because he’s dressed differently to the more conservative men behind him. He’s in ‘day at the races’ garb, whilst the other men are in business suits.

The female’s dress code is wrong for that meeting, but as a previous poster said, kinda sassy as well.

jackstini · 15/01/2025 11:07

Well @Boomer55 - I didn't think much surprised me but you have given me a wtf moment this morning! 🤣🤣🤣

TFL had their “no trousers or skirts “ day last Friday. 🤷‍♀️

I had a corporate job and never dressed 'sexy' as I wanted to be taken seriously...
However, I went on mat leave, returned and the office slag got promoted over me.
Everyone agreed that she was useless but she was more popular with the all male bosses (2 of which she had affairs with...)
So, I can totally see why women feel they need to be attractive in the work place.

AssaultedCamarel · 15/01/2025 11:08

Nothing wrong with either outfit if you choose not to sexualise them. If you choose to sexualise the outfit or the person, you are the one making that choice.

TooBigForMyBoots · 15/01/2025 11:10

She looks really bored.

CeceliaImrie · 15/01/2025 11:14

"If people are laughing at her behind her back it sounds like thier issue not hers."

Do I really need to answer this? There's a code of appropriate business tire for pity's sake. Surely you can see how daft this looks in this setting! It's a political lobby group not a nightclub.

The office slag?

With women talking about female colleagues like this who needs men to keep us down?

ThisUsernameIsNowTaken · 15/01/2025 11:17

Sorry, I don't agree. Women have more freedom than men in choosing their work attire. I also find it pretty sexist to suggest that people will laugh behind her back about her clothes. Has it ever occurred to you that these women might WANT to wear the clothes they're wearing?

SoNiceToComeHomeTo · 15/01/2025 11:17

Flesh coloured trousers look terrible on men and women.
For me, the difference in the photo is that the woman is properly dressed for a smart event in a short skirt and jacket. The man looks at first sight as if he's wearing a jacket with no trousers, which is truly weird.
It's also true that in our country, men don't normally expose their legs in formal situations, unless they are wearing kilts, but women may do.

She looks fine to me.

She looks silly and totally unprofessional. She'll be laughed at behind her back and is probably cold. Then again she's a climate change denier so...

I see we are still judging women on their clothing choices.

He looks like the lower half of a plasticine doll out of Wallace and Grommet, given the meeting, has a plasticine head too.

PizzaPunk · 15/01/2025 11:21

Jeez I must be getting seriously old.

The man in the beige trousers looks about 12 years old to me and that stood out more than his legs! 🙈

DurinsBane · 15/01/2025 11:23

Maybe the woman wants a job working for Nige? With her looks and showing a bit of leg he will probably be putty in her hands 😁

RobinEllacotStrike · 15/01/2025 11:23

Apparently it is empowering & indeed powerful for women & girls to wear as few clothes as possible, and the sexier those clothes are the better.
But this rule only applies to women and girls.
Not men - men need to be fully clothed to be powerful.

So women show skin - sexily of course - and men cover up.

Or something.

I really don't get the whole beige clothing thing and this thread simply reinforces that I shall never ever buy or wear beige clothing.

mollymile · 15/01/2025 11:25

@flyingfar I see we are still judging women on their clothing choices.

Well women do have many choices in any setting, and the way we present ourselves is a good clue as to how we want to be seen.

amoreoamicizia · 15/01/2025 11:28

It's even more striking when you consider swimwear: why are almost all women's swimsuits and bikinis cut in a knicker shape (yes, not all, but most) when men wear shorts? There's no reason at all. And it's been taken even further by the trend for buttock cheek-revealing swimwear. When you really think about it it's bizarre. Ever since I noticed this I wear shorts on the beach or boy leg/short-type swimsuits- why should I go around in knickers when men are all comfortable in their shorts?

To be fair, both men’s and women’s clothing are being judged in this thread.

I was responding to a particular post.

Flavabobble · 15/01/2025 11:34

I'm all for people wearing whatever they want, with the exception of flesh coloured leggings/trousers.

Edited

Do you also go topless?

I find bikinis more comfortable than shorts but to each thier own.

I don't know what you're on about. She's clearly wearing shorts or a skirt, it's hard to see it clearly because it's black. It's not even that short. The man is wearing a suit jacket, it would be very weird for a man to wear anything other than long trousers with a shirt, tie and jacket.

She looks like she's going to a nightclub or something. Corporate types don't wear outfits like that
