Ionasmum19 · 14/01/2025 16:17

Ive failed my driving test for the second time today and I'm so disappointed in myself! Got me curious, how many times did it take others to pass? I feel like giving up now!!

1st time for car and motorcycle. Sorry

If it helps everyone kept telling me that I'd be crap at it since I didn't fail at least once. I'm not sure why that should be so, no one ever really explained.

I had my motorcycle license over a decade before my car one. Got told I would find car test easy... nope!

I passed at the second attempt....my mum took 13!!!! Don't give up just yet x

Got it third go.

Never met a good driver who passed first go

I passed first time , have been driving for 40+ years , never had a ticket / points and according to people who go out with me my driving is exemplary.

MarioLink · 14/01/2025 16:48

1st with a lot of minors and I'd a lot of lessons.

ForLovingAquaSheep · 14/01/2025 16:49

1st time by fluke. I was not ready by any stretch, I was a danger to everyone on the road.

No bad thing taking a few attempts, ensures you've got more experience before being let out into the wild.

medianewbie · 14/01/2025 16:49

3rd time. 1st time the assessor said: 'do you think this is a PCV test?' (exH, a PCV driver, had been giving 'lessons'). 2nd time exH decided we should wash the car just before (I took it in my own car) passenger seat got pretty wet & the instructor was NOT pleased. He told me to reverse park. I started to straighten my wheels first. He said 'not allowed'. I said Driving Instructor said it was'. He failed me. 3rd time lucky. ExH lost his license (both PCV and car) & I've driven my kids around for 20 years.

SnowThaw · 14/01/2025 16:57

Fifth attempt and it didn't help having people tell me they had ten lessons from scratch and passed first time .

Cece92 · 14/01/2025 17:01

I passed 1st time. I only done 10 lessons in total. My best friend started her lessons 18 months before me and had done 1 every week and had failed 4 times before passing 5th and she passed a week or 2 before me. She was just very nervous. I was nervous my first lesson but my instructor was very much like done let people bully you on the road and be confident as anything I done wrong can be worked and improved on. Everyone's different my dad claims to be the best driver ever but my uncle let slip he passed third time lol! I'm the only female driver in my family and only one to pass first time...... men lol! You'll get there. Everyone's different I was so nervous on my test and surprised I passed xxx

SnowThaw · 14/01/2025 17:01

@DemonicCaveMaggot

Same here . Reversing round a corner was my undoing . The fifth time I actually meditated for an hour before the test and asked the universe ( I know woo ) but I did pass because I kind of relaxed and the driving examiner took me on the easy route and I managed the reverse around the corner because it was on a slight slope . I was euphoric and actually cried when he said I had passed because it was something I was told I would never achieve. Smile

Yerbumsaplum · 14/01/2025 17:03

I passed first time after about 16 lessons and no practice between lessons. I think it was the most successful I have ever been at anything in my life. But I had an absolutely fantastic instructor. She was so patient, explained things in a way I could understand.

PlateOfFer · 14/01/2025 17:04

I am assuming by the double lights you mean it is a long junction. This came up on a driving video really recently and lots of people in the comments asked why she was allowed to drive through. So you now know you need to be looking at the road to see if there is a corresponding solid stop line with the red light.

I would keep going until you pass. In the meantime there are lots of great videos of mock tests on youtube with the instructor talking over what they did well and where they went wrong. This is free information. DGN and Clearview are good ones to watch. The red light was on Clearview as a short. Plus these are probably in a completely different area to you so have different hazards and meeting situations.

Keep going, one fault is nothing. If dash cam videos of near misses are anything to go by people fuck up every day and mostly it just results in some swearing. Also a great thing to watch to see where drivers go wrong, especially positioning of your car next to other cars on roundabouts so you don't get side swiped if they change lane. Good luck.

SnowThaw · 14/01/2025 17:05

@XenoBitch

I didn't even tell anyone I was doing lessons . The only one that knew was my husband.

19lottie82 · 14/01/2025 17:06

4th time for me, and I’d consider myself quite a good driver.

HelpMeGetThrough · 14/01/2025 17:11

1st time. No such thing as theory when I did it. Got in and drove and either passed or failed.

Did my RoSPA advanced drivers test and got gold. Also an approved advanced tutor.

I do love driving though.

OneOliveEagle · 14/01/2025 17:11

I passed 5th time. It was at a time where you could quickly book another test for the following month.

Had my instructor not changed his car, I believe I’d have passed first time. With the new car I lost the ability to ‘reverse around a sweeping corner’.

Test 5 was the test where that manoeuvre didn’t come up.

It’s disheartening but keep going. The important thing is not to quit now you’ve reached test stage!!

I always used to do my tests around 4.30/5pm rush hour traffic on a Friday as I figured slow moving traffic would be easier.

VimesandhisCardboardBoots · 14/01/2025 17:15

First time for me, but very nearly bolloxed it up at the last second. Pulled back into the test center, was told to drive forward into a space, then reverse into the one behind. Pulled into space, put car into reverse, and then .... Lurched forward. Somehow I'd managed to put the car back into first again.

Luckily didn't mount the kerb but if I had it would have been an instant fail.

Eloise768 · 14/01/2025 17:21

I did pass first time but I was 28, and had been driving every day (supervised obviously) for the 4 months leading up to my test. I should have failed for hitting the curb when parking but my examiner let that go as I explained something else to her.

basically someone flashed when I indicated to move off and I said “you’re only supposed to use your lights to let someone know you are there so I’m going to secure the car, wait for him to go and then proceed when it is safe” and I passed. I’m adamant that was what made her let the curb bump go.

KimberleyClark · 14/01/2025 17:22

5th go for me. Took several years of on and off lessons and four different instructors. I only had my mum to practice with outside lessons (dad died when Iwas 17) and she was quite anxious about it and didn’t really help my confidence! Plus side was that when I finally passed I was desperate to get in the car on my own and had no nerves at all about it.

Cheeky! Can YOU drive a bus? I can, and passed both car and bus first time!

Hellohah · 14/01/2025 17:27

TakeMyBreadAway · 14/01/2025 16:33

I passed first time with 1 minor.

I passed first time too, but I had the max number of minors allowed (14) 🤦🏻‍♀️

I only actually had 5 hours of tuition though as I did an intensive course. However I was sick for the first 3 days. Went out on the Thursday with the instructor, and had my test at 8am on the Friday morning.

Was quite chuffed with myself all things considered 😂

RoastDinnerSmellsNice · 14/01/2025 17:27

In view of your update about why you failed OP, I feel confident you'll pass with flying colours next time, if that was the only mistake you made.

99victoria · 14/01/2025 17:28

4 times for me.

Took it 3 times when I was 17/18 and failed then went to uni, got married, had a baby and took some more lessons and a test when I was 25 and passed it first time. I'm a pretty confident driver now

aintnospringchicken · 14/01/2025 17:29

I passed at my second attempt when I was 22yrs old.
DC both passed first time when they were 17.

luckylavender · 14/01/2025 17:30

3rd. Although I complained about the 2nd due to the horrendous weather - shouldn't have happened. So I got the 3rd one free. So I always say 2.5!
