Keep hydrated! Play music. Call a friend - always better to talk to someone

If I'm experiencing really high anxiety during the night, I run a bath, as lying in water tends to relax me.

Thanks all. Will this feeling definitely get better :( I feel like I will always be like this. Does CBT for anxiety actually work? I feel like I've got it too badly to be able to recover

CBT can be effective if your anxiety is rooted in thinking patterns, in any case it's worth giving it a try.
But there's something you can do for yourself straight away; Google ''vagus nerve reset exercises''. The vagus nerve is the 'off switch'' for anxiety. When we're anxious our posture and breathing changes, and if you can take more control of that you can reduce your anxiety.
Start with your posture; make sure your tongue is on the floor of your mouth not stuck to the roof, and relax your shoulders and neck.
Then try the breathing exercise;
While counting you breathe in through your nose, hold, then breathe out through your mouth, hold. Your goal is to be able to count steadily up to 5 or 6. Practice every day, every time you remember and especially when you already feel calm.

Thank you. I'm not familiar with vagus nerve exercises so will definitely look into that
