DS’s girlfriend is a mature undergraduate. She is exploring career options after deciding she doesn’t want to pursue a career in her degree subject but she is first generation to go to university in her family and doesn’t really know what she wants to do or what the options are. Obviously, she is seeking advice at the university careers department before anyone starts making comments about why I am asking for a grown woman… 🙄

DS has asked if I could remember the online careers test he did 10 years ago as it was really good. It was a very in depth version of the standard test that asks questions like “would you rather be an accountant or a concert pianist” or “would you rather make something or write about something” etc but what was great about it was it listed every career in the database (with detailed info) in order of compatibility with your answers so you could scroll through and explore 100s of options you had never thought of or heard of. I have a feeling it also offered suggestions of related jobs if you liked the sound of a specific career. None of the tests they have found are as user friendly.

All I can remember is that it was recommended on MN on quite a few threads about 10 years ago 😂 I had a feeling it was the National Careers Service but, if it was, it doesn’t exist anymore!

AIBU to ask if anyone remembers it? It would be great to track it down!

the National Careers Service still very much exists.

Yes they exist but not the test, if indeed the test was on their website. I may be misremembering!

Uni careers service should have access to tests like these.

They do have a similar test but nowhere near as good as this one was. The test will probably be the same but the results were really useful with analysis of how it was compatible and incompatible with your answers so you could weigh up whether any incompatibilities were important to you or not.
