Do the police take these kinds of reports seriously?

I've never had to report anything like this before so just curious if they actually look into these things...?

I was just driving through my town centre, in traffic, waiting to pull into the retail park and noticed a man and woman crossing the road. I'm sure I wasn't the only one that noticed. It looked like he was dragging her. She was pushing him away and he was holding onto her arm really tight and pulling her. They weren't arguing but he was saying something to her. I could see on her face that she really didn't want to go with him but they carried on. I couldn't get out of the car as I was in the middle of traffic (not sure if it was wise to approach them anyway in case things escalated)

I turned around but they'd already gone, not sure where. I phoned the police straight away and reported it and the operator said she would see if there were any officers in the area. I'm kicking myself that I didn't get out to help. Will they actually look into it?

Yes I believe so. Well done for reporting it. I don't know what else you could really do, so I think reporting it is the main thing.

He was banking on nobody intervening op. Well done for trying to help. Cctv should find them if you have decent descriptions... I reported a woman for assaulting her dc years ago. Saw them putting her +dc in a car further down the road. We surely have to do what we can, when we can. The stuff behind closed doors mostly goes unnoticed...

They definitely do. My DD saw a man smack a young child really hard in a car park a few weeks ago whilst shouting and swearing at her. The police phoned back within the hour and came out to take a statement the same night.

In my experience, they do take this sort of thing seriously and will follow it up if they're able to.

There's nothing more that you could have done.

Thank you for your kind words, I really hope they followed it up. It just makes you wonder if people are happy behaving that way in public then what are they capable of doing behind closed doors. Hopefully the woman in question is ok x
